Hi All!

This is my first thread.

I have ordered my new audi a3 in Glacier white:). I have gone for the se spec and optional extras include the milano leather seats and the 17" multi spoke wheels.

I really want to add the DRL's but the price is a lot! Is there any alternative.. or any place i can get them for cheaper? Also can i put in canbus error white side lights instead of the halogen lights?

Hi, welcome to audi-sport.net. Hope you enjoy the forum. :) x

Hi, welcome to the forum.

I wouldn't bother putting up with after market bulbs etc. You will only regret every time to walk to the car or use them at night.

Personally I'd try and adjust your spec so you can Xenons or try and increase your budget. Option worth having as really makes the car stand out.

Thanks for your reply.

What would be the price for LED DRL headlights

Depends what you mean by LED DRL headlights?

The xenon and LED headlights both have the white LED DRLs in them (the eye brows). Xenon's are around £2k per side to retrofit, and LEDs a little more. Only really makes sense to choose these when ordering.

£1250 in the UK to put the xenons on to an SE spec car.

In answer to your original question. You can easily put white replacement side lights in. I've done it. Yes they look good but they're not anywhere near as cool as the eye brow DRL'S. My biggest regret is not having them. But there's always next time

Can i upgrade my lights after the car has been built? Also do you know if its LEGAL to tint my front headlights in the UK? I know you tint the brake lights..

Do you mean change the bulbs or completely change the headlight unit to LED? You can do both but the second would cost you a crazy amount of money and just isn't worth it. The bulbs themselves can be upgraded easily enough though. I'm not sure on the tinting of headlights. I've used lamin x on my fogs to good use. I'm sitting on the fence with doing the head lights though. As you will lose some of the performance of the bulbs

It's been discussed before and the general opinion was the cost and work involved to retro fitting the Xenons made it quite prohibitive......best ordering from the factory.

It looks like from your posts that you really want them - might be a good idea to check with your dealer if there is the possibility of amending your order and seeing if they can sweeten the deal further to work with your budget :)

Personally, I would have gone for the xenon light pack over the leather, 17" wheels and glacier paint.

The normal se spec seats i think are not comfortable. Hence why i chose the milano leather. And 17 inch multi spoke wheels. Glacier white metalic paint i think will look nice too. Could i get the LED headlights from audi a month or two after i have the car?

I did already answer that... Yes.... But you're looking at £3k to £4k for genuine parts, plus fitting. I doubt Audi themselves would offer it as a retrofit, but an Audi specialist might do it.

You could claw back some cost by then selling your old light units.

I thinki might just swap the milano leather seats with the headlights....

What do you reckon? Good choice or not? Then maybe i can add the milanos a month or two later?

My choice would be xenon's over leather seats. I don't know how much leather seats are to retrofit, but I bet it isn't much cheaper than the xenon's or LED headlights. Someone with access to the parts catalogue may be able to confirm.

Mate, trust me as someone who decided against xenon's with their LED drl's on my sport....... GET THEM! I'd ditch the leather and opt for them. Otherwise every time you see an s line you'll go grrrrrrrrrr! They really set the car off. Hardly anyone will see the leather and it's a pain in both summer and winter.

Im so close in ordering the lights. Im looking at audi configurator online. And there is a xenon package for 1250 and led package. Would the xenon package include the white led eyebrows in the headlights??

Yes!

Yes. Its not a bad value pack when you look at all the things it gives you.
So why is the led package costing more? What does that include? And once i add the xenon package will i get auto lights as standard ?

The LED headlights are brand new technology (for the a3 range) and Audi are selling them as a premium option over the xenon's. They get mixed reviews on here, so if money is tight on the options list I'd say stick with the xenon's.

Auto lights come as part of the xenons yes.

Do it pal!! Trust me, those lights carry a coolness factor that no amount of leather will make up for!

So theres not any additional kit added with the LED Package. I think i will be ordering the xenon light package tmrw, for 1250. Which will include xenon lights with led eyebrows, auto lights and it should also include rear led lights too??

Correct on all accounts.

2 weeks?? I suspect not as it'll likely be locked in the factory build queue now, but they may be able to tweak another car order to suit your new spec. Only way to find out is to ring the dealer.

I tried changing mine and was told it closes 4 weeks prior to build.

If only your said 2 weeks in your first post we would have told you its unlikely you'll be able to change it, and then we would have spent the rest of the thread telling you how good the leather seats are and how you don't need xenon's anyway...

So let's just pretend you did....

Leather seats are awesome, xenon's do look good but prob aren't worth the extra money if you're on a budget. You spend most of your time inside the car so you won't even be able to see the lights.

Personally I'd much rather have the leather. You notice it every time you get in and sit down.

Leather all the way for me. Once you in the car the headlights are irrelevant and you will never see what they look like while they are on. I wouldn't spend significant money on a feature which is purely for others appreciation.

Every time I leave home in the car I see my drls and headlights reflected in the windows of the house opposite the end of my road where I pull out on to the main road. Sometimes I flash the headlights, provided nobody is sitting in the front room of course! It's one of those houses where you can see right through to the garden.

I wouldn't go as far as to say the lights are irrelevant. Above and aside from the obvious aesthetic benefit of the eyebrow DRLs, xenon headlights offer the driver hugely improved night time visibility over halogens.

My car was already specced, built and at Emden when I bought it; had I been speccing myself the xenons would have been on there for certain. As things stand, I plan to source used xenons from a breaker in around 5 years when the prices come down to a few hundred rather than a few grand.
