Soo...

Some of you are aware that I was going to place an order for S3 Saloon in December for it to hopefully arrive around June time in time for me coming back from my holiday in May! (no holiday blues!)

BUT..... Now I get told about the 2% price increase which is going to add a fair amount on top of what I was wanting to pay.

I either:

1: Order the car now, save some cash and just get it early, will still look forward to it when I get back from my hols.

2: Wait and end up paying more but get it when I originally wanted it.

Budget is a big thing for me and I was stretching it as it was to start with so this increase may result in not being able to afford. you wouldnt think it but 2% is a fair rise!

Advice?? what would you do?

Your choice really and you already said budget is a biggie for you.

I know you're saying budget is a big thing, but if you can afford a £30k car then a 2% increase is what £600? In the big scheme of things it's pennies.

I was in a similar position on when to take delivery of my car. But you won't be going from say a 64 to a 15 so I wouldn't worry. You wouldn't lose any value in the car. Just go for it :D

yeah true enough mate, I thought it would be about £600. Proably about £15 a month more.

Rather save the £15 a month for beers! haha.

cheers for ur input, I'll see what deal I can get!

If 2% is too much then I'd suggest the car is too expensive.

I can afford the car no problem. The question was do I really wanna pay another 10-15 pound more a month for the sake of getting it when I want it. £600 is a fair bit considering you would have to then get a further £600 back from the dealer as a discount to get to where the price is now.

I'd say it's more about principle than it is the £600, why do you need to shell out another £600 when it clearly isn't your fault?

Exactly mate, rather do it now and save myself £600 I think. Better In my wallet then theirs.

If the GFV goes up accordingly with a price increase and that S3 retains close to 2/3 of its RRP (basic car, RRP not so much the options), you'll be losing £200, not £600 - a fiver a month.

Yeah ur right, will have to check what the GFV will be. It was 16k last time I asked. Will check that out first and see what the difference is.

£16k GFV for the saloon? That seems incredibly low. The Audi dealers do seem to practice variable GFV figures (they've always been fixed with VW finance), maybe they're quoting a low one for you so they can make you a low offer when you part-ex it, and get back some of their discount they (hopefully) gave you? Or maybe the saloon gives a lower GFV than the other variants? I got a quote for an S3 Sportback with very few options (options will add very little to the GFV) and it came in at £17600. Even then the dealer indicated that you'd normally see £3k more than that on what they would likely give me on a p/x when it is 3 years old.

Order your car now for March delivery (new 15 plate) if finances allow. If it is scheduled to arrive a little earlier then ask the dealer not to register it until the new plate.

I thought exactly the same! I expected 18-19k as a minimum for the GFV. The sales guy is a mate of mine and he says Audi decides what the GFV is but can change. You would think with the high demand of saloons the GFV would be high?

DLD offered £3700 discount. Told me mate I was wanting around the 3k mark. Think I'll probably lucky to get that even!

For many cars, the saloon option is traditionally unpopular in the UK (Bora/Jetta vs Golf etc), but the current S3 saloon is a real looker (and plenty of other cars are looking more coupe-like in saloon variant), maybe Audi don't have the historical confidence in a saloon shape to be worth as much as, or more than the 3dr/SB variant? Maybe try asking your mate what the GFV is on a Sportback with same optional equipment added - i'm sure plenty would be interested to see if a SB is going to be potentially worth a grand or 2 more than a saloon when you trade in - would it sway anyone to ditch the saloon for a sportback if there was £1500 in it between the 2 GFV figures, potentially making the SB £45ish cheaper for someone doing a PCP. By asking the GFV question for a SB, you'll know either way. If he quotes similar (or even lower GFV) for an SB, it would suggest he's quoting a very low GFV for your car (within the discretionary range Audi dealers seem to have to tweak the GFV figure), if I have been quoted £17600 at 3 years for a Sepang SB with £2k options.

True to all of that. I specced up car again but the GFV was now £17500, certainly helped with the payments!!

If you can't afford a 2% increase in price then you can't afford this type of car.

Have you thought about service costs, replacement tyres, brakes etc..

Premium products come with premium prices.

Got nothing to do with affording it, I can afford more than that, its what I'm willing to pay and If I wanted to pay an extra £10-£15 a month just to get it when I wanted was the main question.

and yes I have included all of the other costs that are associated with the car!

thanks for the advice everyone, I have now ordered the car!! :)

Why not get it as soon as you can? In the meantime you're missing out on the excitement and enjoyment of S3 driving. Go do it.................

I'm a little confused with the above post. Did you get a GFV of £17500 with re-speccing your car as a Sportback, vs £16000 for the Saloon, or did you just get the dealer to tweak the GFV up to £17500 for the Saloon on the finance docs?

This was for the saloon, Audi supposably make the decision on what the value should be so unless they have increased it because of the popularity I'm not sure but it raised by £1500!

Your original post states you were stretching your budget and you may not be able to afford it with a 2% increase.

Might want to re-read your OP cause it sounds like you don't know which way is up or what you can and can't afford.

Anyway, this thread was a thread about nothing in the end. Congrats on your purchase!
