Hi All,

Was driving my A4 to work this morning and suddenly just lost power, coil light started flashing and could only do around 40/50mph. Car has gone into Audi as i was driving past them but does anyone have any thoughts of what it could be?

Thanks!

Coil light as in Diesel? Mine did this twice. first time, EGR failure and 2nd time a wiring loom that had melted through on the EGR cooler pipe 0_o

coil light flashing could be tons of things however. when something goes wrong on audis it turns into a roulette.
A coil light could flash and youll need a new rear tyre its stupid lol

hope its a cheap fix bro

Am keeping my fingers crossed for you too Mate.....but diesels are rarely fixed cheap!......is it driveable....get it to a good indie garage and get a diagnostic done on it.

Well its in with Audi at the moment only because its having a cam belt and water pump tomorrow - didn't realise that the flashing coil light could mean anything...thought it was something to do with the coils themselves.

The joy of having an Audi is that you are basically being held by the balls until you get that bill :)

And the tightest grip is an Audi VAG garage....with their eye watering labour rates! Hope their phonecall is only good news Mate.

Okay so Audi have found the issue - supposedly the turbo was down on pressure. They've checked all the pipes and haven't found any leaks. Took it out for a spin and absolutely no issues. They said they want to keep hold of the car till Monday so they can do some more road tests but basically at this moment in time they are saying no fault found :(

Bad in a way as if they can't find the fault and it returns, just a matter of time before it goes again.

Mine did this last week down to south of France, turned off and on no issues after but maybe egr needs a clean?

Not good to hear that! How much is a new oil pump?

I know this might not help but I had the exact same fault 2 weeks ago, on the motorway I put my foot down to overtake to get to my junction and the coil light started flashing and lost the turbo, I could still drive and not the limp mode, got it checked by diagnostic at a local garage, they said the code related to the boost pressure sensor or solenoid, Audi quoted £600 to fix I started to panic, but after a diagnostic by Audi and a full health check turned out to be the Air filter had sucked itself in, and the lack of air made the sensor register the fault, so sorry it was a long story but it could be as simple as the air filter is blocked, or like mine sucked in, I am also told it's called a map sensor

Hey swift - no always worth a try. Your symptoms sound exactly the same as mine! The car is with Audi and they are investigating everything. On Monday will give them a call or pop down and check it myself. How the hell does an air filter suck itself in .... Weird!

I have only had the car 4 weeks the previous owner had put in a K&N either not the correct one or was not maintained properly but when the Audi guy brought it out, the filter was in pieces and all it cost was £32 filter and fitting better than £600+ so maybe a little light at the end of the tunnel

Yeah sounds feasible and an explanation! Just took me by surprise as the car has been maintained to the highest standard

Hope it's something easy and cheap for you, I was worried buying private but when the Light came on the problems started I felt sick, thought I had been done over, but luckily a simple fix, and the Audi guy said the car was very tidy and maintained for its age and mileage, but warned me about the oil for the tip tronic box

Mines a manual so unsure if that's a similar thing to watch out on mine. Exactly the same as you buddy - bought privately and was fine. Few weeks later I'm here with this ****** issue

Have you heard of terraclean? Do you think that could be beneficial? Cars only done 40k too

Supposedly they cut off the fuel tank and run a higher quality fuel through the engine. Reduces carbon, cleans the engine and supposedly gives it a new bit of life...

Oh right might be a gd shout but I think it might be pointless with urs being so low on mileage did you say 40k

Yeah it's only got 40k on the clock. Just surprised how I'm having possible issues with the engine when the cars barely been worn in

Blimey! Well hopefully once this is done, I can get a good life out of the car :)

Lol I know quite high I have seen higher, but I hope it lives for a while, until I can afford a A6 Le Mans Avant

Le Mans a6 is seriously good looking. What a4 do you have?

Ah. I went for 2.0 diesel quattro. Bit too much tax for the 3ltr

I had a 2 litre before loved it, just got rid of a BMW 5 series so fancied a bit more power, saw this and really liked it tax is £285 for 12 months which I can live with, stayed with a diesel too, I'm still not 100% about the Tiptronic not used it much just pop it in sport mode and go, the previous owner stuck a pair of Powerflow cans on it, which makes it look quite nice from the back, just looking at upgrading the alloys, putting it on some coilovers and then a remap, just to top it off, I thought I had out grown the boy racer side of me at 33 lol but no, just fancy a nice looking ride

Ha. It's all about the nice looking ride. I'm 23 and drive the estate - just such a gorgeous and flawless (not at the moment) car ;)

Very true! Money makes the world go round. Also makes a car drive able lol

got the car booked in Wednesday AM for a terra clean so see how it performs after that

Yea let me know I might do it, what's the costing on that and where are you having it done

Guy quoted £105 over the phone just for the terra clean - they do another package which cleans the manifold, dpf, egr and everything else which costs £250! supposedly if you buy one package you can't upgrade it at a later date - was worth asking ;)

Not expecting a massive change with the car only being 40k on the clock but would still be intrigued if it makes any changes..

Will keep you posted :)
