I'm just detailing my car, after going over the area wigh the fuel filler cap, I pressed it to open and clean away polish residue from the edges. went to push it shut and the flap won't shut. I can feel the spring but it's not clicking into place.
The locking solenoid for the central locking still works fine as you can see it fire across to lock.
any ideas what's up with it and what to do?

cheers.

The rubber clicky bit pulls out IIRC, mine got sticky and I had to pull it out and clean it. That might have been on my old Audi A2 tho ...

The rubber bit moves in and out it just doesn't click.

I managed to pull the rubber cover off exposing the plastic piston but couldn't see any way of removing that part?

All I can find is people who have had trouble with the bad not locking or staying out. That works perfectly as it should.
The flap just won't stay closed with the one click push to open/close.

Can you not just buy a new clicky / piston / thingy...? Can't be more than a tenner, I'd have thought.

I think they're £15. I have no idea how to replace it though I guess the whole flap has to come off, how you do that I do not know.

The fuel filler neck housing comes out, you need to remove the torx screw then gently remove the housing. Do a search as this was covered over the weekend in another post regarding "fuel filler flap won't lock"

Cheers mate. Just found it!
The A4 has four slots white you pierce to prise the shroud off but my S3 doesn't appear to have any

I have not taken mine off yet. But from what I have read you undo the torx screw and remove the fuel cap, you then just pull and ease it out.

Do this at your own risk. As I haven't done mine yet. Audi sell the surround for £20 approx.

I've booked in for the actuator to be replaced next Thursday. £40 inclduing parts and labour.
Annoyingly I have to drive round with aload of tape holding it down on show for now.

I hope it is the actuator after all this. Lol
