S3 mirror covers

Why would you want to do that? It's one of the few things that distinguishes the S3 from the other cars in the range.

Yeah, I get that. Just asking the question. Could look good in black, well on the right colour car may be. I saw a mk2 S3 in Ibis with red mirrors a few months ago. Now that did look ****e I must say!

Yer don't sound too nice tbh haha

I had colour coded on the 8L and always wanted the chrome ones to be fair. It was a 1999 plate so think they were a option back then.

The guy I've sold my 8P to when my 8V arrives wants to colour code the mirrors ( sprint blue )

If the covers did obscure/cover the indicator repeaters in the wing mirror then I would understand they would be illegal but any other reason?

Personally not interested in getting them but just curious as to how they would cross the line....

John.

They are illegal in the same way PilotAudi deemed Personal Plates illegal.......

ie: Forum Police illegal (impersonating a S3 ! ) ;)

Anyway back on topic. I found a set of folding mirrors. Wouldn't mind getting them retro fitted. However it we need painting. Can my mirror covers be removed and swapped over?

Mirror covers can definitely be swapped. Body coloured mirrors are no longer an option in the UK. My dealer has ordered some blank caps and is going to paint them sepang for my s3, and I'll put the chrome in storage.

Option 6FA on the current configurator (recently updated to MY15) gives body coloured mirrors.

I cant wait to get s3 8v mirror caps om my black a3 - original priced 6500nok / 650 £ so I hope to find them cheaper elsewhere. Anyone who knows where??

Also thinking of switching my S3 ones over for phantom black. How much do aluminium ones sell for generally?

It's a matter of opinion, I rather like the distinctive look of the S mirror covers, particularly where the body colour adds a significant contrast, black, blue, red and darker silvers.
There's not much to separate the S (or RS) models in many cases and the mirror caps are a major identifier, and they look nice.

I think an the car alarm goes off if you fit S3 mirrors to an A3 ;)

Gents, I removed my mirror caps today. They just pull off, If you cup your hand round the cap and pull from the edge that faces the window towards the front of the car. You must be forceful but patIent.

Easier way is to fold the mirror. Then its the same as smithy said above.
Once a clip gets off you just need to move it a bit up and down gently and the rest of the clips will get loose.

I,

Does anyone know how to remove the mirror caps of the A3 8V?

I want to get it repainted

Thanks

Leave it parked at the side of a narrow road with the mirrors out, some numpty will remove it for you! They may remove the whole mirror!
