Hi all,

unfortunately I have been made redundant and cannot afford to run my "B6 toy" anymore.
My wife says I should sorn it and reduce the insurance to the minimum (it lives in my garage, so is always tucked up) and
i have another car that I use everyday. It needs a new alternator pulley and tensioner, so I don't know if I should fix it and sell.
The thing is, I love my car. I am torn between laying it up and selling.
what do you guys think? The opinions of the masses matter greatly to me.

thanks in advance.

Can you afford to keep it off the road for a while, if you can I say keep it for the moment and don't make any hasty decisions you'll regret later Things will pick up for you soon I'm sure. What model is it out of interest ?

Thanks Dave, I really love the car and can afford to keep it tucked away for the time being.
It has just been mot'd and if I cash the tax in that will pay for the repairs, to the engine.
As said before, I have a second car, my A4 is my weekend toy to play in. I have plans for the car, these could also go on hold.
It's a 1.8T SE 163.

Defo keep it for the moment. I'm just down the road in south shields, got a 2.5 quattro b6 avant auto, mines up for sale shortly though as the wife doesnt like the auto - but thats another story !
Will get another b6 or b7 though, great cars !

For me i would have to weigh it all up, if the car is what you want and in the condition you are happy with then keep it, i think i would sell it and when things change for you would go and get annother "toy" something like a B5 RS4 would be good!!

If it was me i know if i sold it I would regret it in the future.

Off topic but I'm in Durham
(Washington originally lol)

Keep and donr it though, could end up with a new job sooner than you think and will kick yourself if you've sold it

I'm in Newcastle too !
I say keep it , I reluctantly sold mine and I had it from brand new, although I did buy it back 3 years later the exact same car . It too is my toy and sits in my garage until my day off !

Im in South Shields also mate, what colours your A4?

Purely as devils advocate.... cars are often at their most unreliable when they're not used for long periods of time....

Thanks for all of the replies and advice fellas. As said it is a difficult decision to make but I think I will just keep it and declare it off the road. Chrismawa, it's an unusual colour, it's merlot red and I live in Hebburn, so just a few miles from you and Quattrodave, not much farther from some of the other guys.
Since 2005 I have always had a second car, the first being an mk Indy, lotus 7 kit car. I bought this new and was by far the quickest car I have ever owned. This was far to impractical for any kind of normal use, so it went. Next was an mx5, great but a little uninspiring.
Then I bought the A4, by far the best of the three.
I'm going to keep it:thumbsup:
Thanks fellas.

What's your new commute?
Does it require the fiesta tdci

My new commute is only about 25minutes and I could do it it solely with the Audi, as I can get around 30 mpg.
However, the fiesta will return 65mpg if I behave myself and use the cruise. Plus it has all the toys and I do rather like it.

I will use the Audi two days and the fiesta for three, that way I will get the best of both.
