Sorry I have searched but nothing turns up similar to my symptoms.

In neutral revving the engine slightly when then revs begin to drop, I hear a strange sound. Like a whiring/metal rattle noise? I can rev it to 1k or 3.5k revs I get the same metal rattle noise? The noise does not happen in gear.

The car also seems slightly down on power?

any help would be great thanks.

do you hear it with the clutch pedal depressed?

if no then it could possibly be the clutch release bearing.

I'll give that a try. Although the clutch feels fine.

the clutch can still feel fine, its the the actual bearing that could be worn/noisy

Clutch depressed and the noise is still there. Would a knackered DV make a whiring sound?

Is it a petrol or diesel? I have the same issue with my TDI but was told it was the wastegate and it isn't anything to be worried about.

What engine do you have mate ? I got a whirring sort of sound on my 2.0tdi bre what happens on the wastegate ? Is is easy to check yourself? I also got a missfire at around 1800 rpm

Got a 2.0 TDI 140 BLB. I looked into it on the Internet a while ago and several people reported similar noises from the wastegate which I assume is the turbo?

Ok, been for a test drive on my lunch.

At idle out of gear rev the engine to 2k and the mechanical buzz/whirring noise happens as the revs drop. I can't seem to get the noise to happen when I am in gear and in motion.

The noise also happened as i turned the ignition off to leave the car.

Any help would be fantastic
The car also seems low on power higher up the gears 4th/5th and 6th.

So it seems like I am not the only one with this issue; a few guys at audizine and stateside call it a rattle snake under the bonnet.

Here is a link to someone who has exactly the same sound as I have;

New turbo time?

hi, I could not make a new topic so if you dont mind I will post here

I have 2005 a6 c6 blb engine, 125k miles on clock, all serviced and all good, car drives fine apart clutch noise which started while ago. I can only hear noise when car is cold, after 5-10 minute driving it goes away. While car is on when pressing clutch pedal there is no sound, it comes while driving the car in between changing the gears only when pressing the pedal not depressing it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Si thanks for speedy replay. I have been running car for some time and it has not got any worst. I am curious if this be the case in somer time. In europarts price is 311 quid. So maybe not too bad but i need to know for sure its that probem. Thanks

Hi, me again. Si what you mentioned is right, I phoned few garages and explained the situation and both of them said fly wheel, however after doing some reading many people saying they drive their car 10 to 40k miles with the issue and things never got worst. So i though if i will feel any physical difference rather then noise I will take it to the garage. Today is the second time I heard noise when accelerating but it only happened two times, similar noise as when changing gear but twice rather then once(btw when accelerating gently gear change noise disappears). Now I am starting worry more the i was, is my turbo alright? its 2.0 tdi and car been serviced regularly, last month got the full service. car done 125k miles. Anyone is familiar with the issue any help would be appreciated.

thank you

Hi, I live in Wisbech. I think its quite far away from ya.

When clutches and flywheels have been on dying on my cars they made more of a knocking noise and nothing like that video, could be the bearing as I haven't experienced that. Sounds like some form of intake or loose pipe to me, could be something with the turbo but doesn't sound like that either to me (unless again something's loose/split), god knows just going down the list of my problems haha.

I am going to check air filter tomorrow as someone on the other thread suggested that it could be an air filter, which was replaces on last month in my case so makes sense.

I wanted to buy koni fsd`s with eibach pro springs for my car this spring or summer, I hope money wont go to something else

Could well be the filter in that case, depends which one you went for and how well it was all sealed back up.

Yeah that noise was the least of my worries.

Not sure when people mention the clutch in this thread, if they are refering to me or the thread hijacker. My issue was certainly not the clutch.

Guys... I am new here, and as mentioned above I am having the similar problem, reason I posted here is because I could not open a new topic for it. Hope this clears the confusion up

Hey there and welcome,

If you are referring to the metal whirling noise as mentioned in the start of the post i suggest you not drive the vehicle as the engine of the owner went bang. So if you are suffering with the noise it is most likely a very similar scenario. Thou I would assume you are running the same engine. Which if that is the case you need to get your car scanned as well as have your timing chain and tensioner checked/replaced. The continue of what happend from the poster is here. http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/audi-s4-a4-a4-cab-b7-chassis/209666-urgent-help-advice-needed.html

Thanks for the welcome!

My situation is not exactly the same, I get noise in between changing gears and surprisingly today I have noticed it is not happening as i though before on pressing the clutch pedal. While driving today i tried to give a one second in between depressing the gas pedal and pressing the clutch pedal to change the gear, and i noticed that ,whoosh` sound comes after depressing the gas pedal just before pressing the clutch pedal, so my thoughts is that its not clutch pedal cos i am not even touching it and noise is there.

I guess I will have to take it to garage now, its not that bad but still... it only happens when going up from 2--4,5 gears(never get a chance to select 6 gear in town)

thank you for your replays

Josef
