I've just bought a second hand Audi Concert stereo, which came from a 2006 Audi A4, and have fitted it to my 2001 S3. The main functions all work fine, but the buttons don't light up when the car's lights are on, and the radio station/track number doesn't appear in the instrument cluster readout, and you have to turn the stereo off (it doesn't turn off when ignition is off) What wiring/adapter/leads do I need? Assuming I need a loom/lead to communicate from the dash to the head unit.

Since I've had zero replies to this, I've spent a while trying to find out for myself. My car is a 2001 but it does not have Can-Bus (I have both a red and white, and a red and yellow wire coming from the black power ISO). So, how do I get a stereo that came from a Can-Bus equipped car (2006 A4) to work properly (ie the buttons light up when my car lights are on).

you need to find out which wire was the illumination lead (on after market units its usually orange)

find it on the original head unit and then find it on the new one then make sure the wires are correct on the loom

Oh ok thanks, I'll try that, was gonna go down the can-bus simulator route which will cost £50... Also have seen a method of taking the bottom plate off the head unit and soldering a wire to pin 8 on the circuit board...a little nervous about trying that though!
