Just wondered if you guys are aware of these wearing and causing oil pump failure ? Mine is in having a service and a new drive as a precaution . My friend who is a ex vw master tech who now runs his family business was telling me the horror stories from when in vw .

The part is about £8 but sadly 5 hours to fit it and he recommends.it being done every 60/70k

Really, on a B8, I only know of the previous chassis being so problematic.

Yeh b8 . The early drives are hollow and the later ones are solid and hardend . I'm picking up the car tomorrow so will grab the old drive

your missing the half of it , if your mate knows his stuff then he will know that vw/audi changed the whole oil pump drive part for a newer one . i bought the part myself at a cost of £250 exchange ,the part you are buying is just a plain old allen key with the end cut off basically .and yes it does have a hole in the old one but it does not cure the problem that i can guarantee .

the new drive and key are modified the key is 100mm long where the old one is approx 75mm long ,the drive is redesigned so that the keyway is alot deeper and the key is a very tight fit .

old design only allows key to insert around 10-15mm and is loose even when new . my advice would be to fit the whole new part ,you have to do the same amount of work to get to it . and the new part has a lifetime unlimited mileage warranty against failure .

So what did you get for £250 ? A new oil pump or drive ?

for the £250 now £225 you get the allen key plus the new balance shaft ,you need to change both these parts for it to be bullet proof .

ive honestly seen a 6mm allen key cut down and used as a bodge on the older b7 models .

have a look on ebay for balancer shaft repair

:scared2: thort thes tdi cr engines were bullet proof !

anyone know how much all this costs, any pics of the item, any symptoms/mileage/year?

replacement parts cost £225 ,no idea what they will charge to fit in your neck of the woods . symptoms are low oil pressure light on
mileage 80,000 upwards.
look on kmbpartsdirect and look at the balance shaft kit

so if low oil pressure light ever comes on...stop engine and get em done?
sell mine before 80k lol only on 60k yet and i only drive 6-7k a year

It's 5.5 hours work as the subframe has to be removed . And as with any oil light turn the car off that instant

never heard of issues with the 3.0 tdi....but there are issues with the auto box's that many 2.7/3.0 tdi come with a lad i know had his tt one done twice,a4 one done 4 times! first time at 13k miles last one after 60k
Sorry to be potentially thick here but would that extend to the b8 '08 3.0 V6TDI also?

I have an 2008 mod A4 B8 With the 2.0 TDI going on 170 000 km now.
One more thing to worry about.

that around 106k?..........im not worried, mines just turned 60k.........plenty on sale on e-bay ranging from 50k to 188k.........im sure they all NOT had the failure.

RESURRECTION.......
is this the same engine that is in the late 2008 vw passat ?

Yes.........dont worry im in same boat....not many b8's plent for sale on e-bay upto 190k on them when i searched all 2008/9 models.........ive stopped panicking mate, plenty of rumours, but who knows how theyve been maintained?
Anyone know if a mid 2009 A4 2.0 143 engine code CAGA is affected ?

The rumour is yes........only safe after oct 2009....dont panic we have the same engine:salute:
Im told my A4 has the later Gear Driven Mechanism (registered May 2009) is this still affected ?
