Seriously /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/swear.gif off, my car has developed two more annoying rattles and I'm not sure what they are.

I have a rattle comming from around the back seats, I thought it was the seat belt buckle rattling against the plastic at the side of the seats but it isn't. The passenger door window seal, a rattle on the dash right infront of the wheel and a tapping comming from the windscreen/bonnet.

Nearly had a crash today too while I was driving round trying to figure out where the rattles are comming from!! Just totally spoils the whole thing.

Mines got a metalic clumk driving under 40mph when I go over small bumps - coming from the passenger side at the front I think. Also driving me mad...

J.

I too am getting a clunking sound when I go over speed bumbs both front and rear.

Could be exhuast? Something rattles under mine when I pull up onto drive or go forward or backwards slowly, presumably exhaust? Perhaps it has moved on its rubbers?

My car had an extremely annoying buzz/rattle coming from the dash/centre console (or so I thought).

It took two trips to the dealer to get it fixed, and the mechanic finally traced it to the handbrake button !

I don't really know whether to believe him or not,but it's fixed now.

I have various other creaks and rattles (centre armrest creaks, instrument perspex) but I can live with them, for the moment.

If the car were more refined, the creaks and rattles would be more annoying, but the tyre noise from the 18 inchers drowns them out !

Yeah one thing i have defo noticed compared with my 8L A3 the road noise is worse and u can hear the brakes more too, the engine seems to be quiter, but have u noticed the put poly stuff in the quarter panels, presume for sound proofing the noise from engine bay.

I also read in Audi Driver mag about the new S4 compared to the old S4 saying about the noise coming into the cabin, apparently to do with the suspension setup or summot, but i cant see that really, think they've just tryed to cut corners and using different materials. imo

Slug,I owned an '02 A4 for 3 years,and had a new A4 on loan for a day last week.
It was certainly quieter than my old A4,but most of this was obviously down to the use of the 2.0tdi engine, rather than the taxi-like 1.9tdi in my A4.
Road noise was infinitely better insulated than my A3 though.
In fact, the missus commented "my god, this car is quiet".
It was an S-line and had the same 18 inch wheels/tyres as my A3,so it was a fair comparison.

i should think the A4 would be far better than the A3 for sound proofing, especially when thats Audi's best selling car. I drove an older shape A4 for awhile and was pretty quite compare to my 8L A3.
Mind you i was out in the subaru impreza WRX 300, and i goto say what a heap of $hit£ it is, has the "Pro-Drive" pack, basically remap and exhaust and at 265bhp i found it to be slow compared to Jojo's remaped S3 (u got a great car there Joe) and the road noise was shocking!
Thought the new A3 was loud, ggggggggg's not anymore compared to that thing, and sooo much body roll! lol i'd have to choose the S3 over the Sti or WRX anytime!

my boot floor rattles, even with a shed load of velcro in it, so i leave a bag in the boot, probably not the best way to go!

I had the rattle'y rear shocks changed last week, just the squeeky door seals, passenger head rest, and rattle from the paasenger airbag vicinity to sort out now and it will be as quiet as my old shaped A3, last weeks 3 month old A3 TDi courtesy car had a real annoying rattle'y handbrake

I've got an annoying rattle from the sunroof sliding cover, the audi garage suggested i wedge a bit of card in it,i thought it was a nice that they never charged me for the advice

Just heard back from service, he said they found 3 rattles including the doors. For the seals he said they were adjusted and lubricated using a product they use beginning with "k", I forget the name but I'll find out when I pick the car up tomorrow. I'll also find out if it actually works, I hope I'm rattle free.

Classic advice! Not what you'd expect from a premium car, surprised they didn't try to sell you special Audi cardboard for the job! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Lets us know where all the rattles were found mate.

I'll have to get under the Sportback at the weekend, exhaust is rattling, presumably moved on the rubbers or touching something.

Brilliant mate, glad you still have a sense of humour after their suggestion!

Seriosuly, that really made me chuckle. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

come to think of it they would have charged me but the audi cardboard was out of stock

Got my car back, did they fix the rattling window seals.....?

NO, they might be a bit better, but they still rattle. I'm off to get some Gummiplfeldge!
