Aftermarket in an '08 A3 - Pioneer, Kenwood, or Dynavin!

Steer clear of dynavin, by most reports they've had issues.

TBH if you are heading towards £750, then why not head a little more & go for the audi solutions?

Yeah I hear you, but if aesthetics play a part, nothing fits better than oem

Unfortunately at a cost, if the dynavin worked properly they would be good units, but getting the interaction with everything on the car for me holds water better with oem than other systems even at a cost.

I agree with NHN, but don't write the Dynavin off completely until you've had a chance to play with one.
I've just put a D99 Android one in my A4 and for the first few days I had my head in my hands going 'why did I do it"! BUT now I've had time to tinker and learn the system I'm starting to like it. Yes it has 'quirks' but it does do a lot for the money.
IF I had unlimited amounts to spend then I would have gone the OEM route but like you say it's 'a decent chunk' more to get it all. Plus, as for looks, it fits in far better than a standard after-market head unit (IMO). Everyone that's seen mine say's it 'looks like it belongs there'.

I dont agree with that tbh mate, although it is more money for oem than the unit being discussed, its not thousands, certainly not unlimited funds needed to fit the systems.

Sorry... I meant if money wasn't so restricted (i.e. not having to use limited funds that the Mrs doesn't know about ).

Yep, I've managed to get the Android side to connect to the Web. Both through my home WiFi and my iPhone 4s (tethered) using the provided dongle. Very easy.
The Android side seems pretty good (but its only 2.2).
Like I said before I'm starting to like it but it's by no means as slick as OEM.
My main requirements were iPod control and Sat Nav. I was a little disappointed with the interface for the iPod, no album art, truncated Album/Track/Artist names (a bit of a shame on a 7inch screen) and no ABC search, but then it's better than what I was getting with OEM (track 01,...etc)
As for the Sat Nav side, that's great, because you can install any Android App (that runs on 2.2.) so lots of choice. I've gone for Sygic at the mo.

My main wish, would be the ability to have it start-up straight to the Android side. If it could do that, then I would probably use the Android music players with the SD card and not worry about the iPod and lack of full titles etc. If that makes sense to you.

On the radio/player side. The main menu is OK and the radio display is good (average reception if you get an aerial booster) but the graphics on the SD and USB player looks like a child has written it (I believe it's a carry over from the previous version) It's not an issue for me as I mainly use the iPod.
CD/DVD player works fine and the Bluetooth is great. DIS show very limited info mainly source selected and most of my steering wheel buttons work (not the phone related ones).

It wasn't quite plug and play (I had to do the double din conversion, that's another story) due to the fact my car has rear amped speakers and they sounded far to low. So I ended up bypassing the Amp and wiring the rear doors in directly.

So all in all I'm pleased but there is a little bit of me that wishes I would have saved some more and bought all the OEM bits, but then again still no album art etc with OEM.....

This is all IMHO and don't wish to upset anyone. Oh and sorry for any spelling mistakes or bad grammar, I'm typing quickly as I have to rush off.

Forgot to say, I got it from the Dynavin store based in Stockport. Followed the link from the Dynavin.com website for UK suppliers.

So far I've not experienced any major problems but I wouldn't like to put the years warranty to the test.

I have found out that.... it would appear that the MAC addresses on the Android side might be cloned/used on multiple units. So any Android app that needs a Unique Identifier will cause issues.

AMI kit wont play videos, so if thats not a deal breaker, then ami kit is your best option for tunes with iphone/pod, just integrates very nicely that I havnt seen better tbh.

You could just get an adapter as you say, but I was told recently kufatec said they had an issue with there ima & the mk2 unit, whether thats true or not is a question, but was from the horses mouth.
