Where exactly is the mileage stored on these A3's? Because i've just had a look through my service book and the car was serviced religiously every year for 6 years at an audi dealership and it was doing about 20k a year! Then for two years it went totally of the radar and the mileage doesn't seem to add up considering it had the same owner from 2004 until I bought it in august. So i'm just wondering if there is anyway to check the mileage?

Is the mileage not stored on the ecu?

the mileage is stored in the cluster and ecu (and dsg gearbox) but both can be modified easily and dsg mileage can be reset - the combined service/mot histories shows what has been done in previous 6 years so i guess you should have 120k plus whatever happened in the last 2 years

its useful to check that the paper mot certs you may have are not faked - the online version is what was recorded at the time of the mot

have you checked with a dealer to go through their history record as well? - make sure that their records match the paper service book as these are often faked/adjusted as well

0904 020 0001 Audi spec line, this is the number to call before buying any audi! they will give you a full break down of the history, date and mileage, and also the optional extras it comes with.

MOT history can be cheated, and these days cars are being clocked back way too much, really ruins a persons pride and joy.

Give them a call, they should tell you what you want to know/ (Only if its been serviced with a audi dealer though..)

Thats brilliant its got two audi stamps ill ring monday ( failing that i am going to audi liverpool on 1st dec could they tell me ? it wasnt serviced there tho)

What did you buy it on? If you bought it on less than the service history shows, then something is definitely wrong - but if it's just not maintained the 20k/year then that doesn't mean it's dodgy... it could just be that it was the family's first car for 6 years, then they got something new and it became the backup runaround until they sold it.
