Hi peeps ive got a 96 1.8 t AEB not sure if it is standard cuz it goes really well if u no wot i mean the boosting side of things is 1000 rpm to 3000 it spikes at 9/10 psi and 4000 rpm to 6500 it boost 6/7 but I will do well over 140 mph is this right 4 standard how will I now if It's been chipped or remaped don't now if any can understand wot I mean lol

iirc standard boost is 7psi. Mine is chipped and peaks and holds 10-12psi for 181bhp and a top speed of *70mph* on the speedo then it seems to hit a wall.

The book indicates a top speed of 135mph for a stock 1.8T FWD.

The speedo does overread though, so an indicated 140-145 seems about right.

I'd say your boost figures sound standard.

If it's a 96 AEB and it has been remapped then it'll have had a physical chip change as you can't remap them through the obd port.

Wicked cheers can I open the ECU and have a look if there's a different chip

would the chip have a name I.E super chips or something like that

I have a 96 with a chip that boosts to 12-14psi, the chip is not labled though.

kk cheers ill have a look c wots goin on

This is my chipped ecu. You can see the large chip rased on a 'piggy back' at the bottom of the board, On a standard ecu there is just a small chip soldered to the board itself. My ecu was like this when I bought the car and there is nothing to indicate who's chip it is. I don't know if there is a way to find out because I'd be interested too!

can i have a look when the ecu is on the car or do i have to take i off if so will i need vag com to set it back up

No you won't need to set it back up but you will have to remove it from the car because it is inside a metal case. There's only 2 plugs connect it to the car. Just ull the tabs on the side of the plugs and they pull out. 4 Torx screws secure the board in the case but can't remember the size sorry
