Hi.

I was wondering if anyone has removed thier double din stereo and replaced it with the biggest possible touchscreen they can fit into the space that is left.

I am wondering if i will have to make a facia for the screen or is there anyone that can make custom ones.

I am looking at doing this and connect it to a car pc with centrafuse.

Any info would be great.

What car do you have mate?

If it's the 1.8 S3, then start thinking about a custom facia.

hi leshkin.

i have a 2001 a6 avant 1.8t quattro.

i have seen double din touchscreen that fit into the double din space but i am wanting a larger screen if possible.

im a bit gready :sm4:

a 6.5" screen will fit nicely, you can fit in a 7" screen but you will most likely have to create your own surround or take a look at www.bybyte.com I did have a 7" screen installed in a custom surround in my A3 hooked up to a carputer running Free Ice.

Kept it for a while but had on going problems with it so decided to sack it and install RNS-e with a phat noise unit. If you haven't found it alreday www.digital-car.co.uk is a great forum with lots of info and very helpfull people.

Good luck

thank you guys.

i went for a 8" touchscreen and i have made a custom facia myself.

Here is some pics M8

I bought a facia that lets me install 2 single din stereos and cut the inside out of it.

I cut up the front of the screen to the size of the space that i made in the facia.

The rear of the case. I attached that to the back of the screen.

I glued the screen bezel into the facia at the rear.

I used cataloy for repairing car bodies.

Then used wet and dry paper to sand it down.

I sprayed it with matt black paint from halfords.

That's very pretty... I'm now thinking of doing something similar for my Kenwood DNX5220.

How would you mount this in the car? Using some brackets of some sort?

Hi M8.

As i have used the double din facia that i bought for the outside, it has 2 clips at either side to fit into the dash.

I have not installed in the dash yet so i dont know how good it fits.

I bought the facia from fleebay.

It took me a bit of time and alot of carefull cutting with a dremel but worth it in the end i think.

Hope this helps m8.

 Superb job! Keep us updated (pictures) when you fit it please

Hi guys.

I have eventualy got round to taking a pic of my finished facia.

It has taken alot of work and trial and error but i think the finished result looks pretty good.

I have developed a very slight round mark which can be seen on the left side.

I will be sanding it down and another light spray and hopefully that will be it ok.

Looks very good mate, reminds me of another forum that makes us boys look like kids at toysrus, lol, what spec unit did you go with & I assume ssd with no fans for obvious reasons?

Very impressive install I would love to do that to mine. May be one day when I can find 5 minutes to spare.

I am about to sell my full car pc kit as i am selling my car.

I just thought i would put the feelers out first to see if there is any interest.

I will be seliing my car pc, the screen that i have made in this post, a large amp, all the cables, wirless keybaod, wireless dongle.

If anyone is interested then please let me know.

I will probably be putting it on ebay once it is removed if there are no offers before.

Cheers
