Hello as above, I cannot find it on the internet, I am at work but stuck now with no steering wheel. I need the cruise control retrofit guide PLEASE!!

If you have it can you e-mail it to me at joe90k AT gmail.com

Thanks in advance!
Joe

Done it now! Thanks for the help those that e-mailed/PM'd me.

Need to get it coded then all will be well!

Thanks
Joe

Well it took me 3 hrs the first time round and when I had to refit due to wrong part being ordered it took me just over half an hour. Straight forward job really so long as your careful. Amazes me how much Audi charge for this when the part itself in only about £45. You will need VCDs to progam the car afterwards

Guys i did the Cruise Control retrofit myself (actually the blokes of AUDI did) and now i got an issue.

After they put everything back together, when i turn my steering wheel there is some contact between the plastic and the back of my wheel. We already changed one lower cover but the situation got worse :S

Any Ideas? Is it possible that they didnt put the stalk and the slip ring correctly?
I am now driving without the plastic covers behind the wheel, since i found it dangerous having a wheel that gets stuck while turning!

If Audi done the fit i'd take it straight back to get it fixed.

Its fitted wrong mate, just take it back & get them to refit properly, you cant fit it properly & have these issues, its impossible, so they must have fitted wrong.

I thought that since the ECU has the slots for each stalk there wouldn`t be a chance of wrong fitment.

Let`s hope its just that, i was starting to think that my Steering wheel had the problem!

Steering wheel can only go a certain distance back on the column so it cant get in the way full stop mate so you're correct its got to be something fitted badly, if they didnt clip the top/bottom trims together properly &......................

Hold on just had a thought, maybe they stuck the trim bolts on the column before putting the trim on & the trim is being pushed out so it interfere's with the rear of the wheel, thats possible & tbh if this is the case, then its very very stupidly thick of them not to see this.

That`s got to be it.
The stalks pushing the trim out.

The slip ring sits just right, so i guess the new Stalk with the cruise control sits wrong and pushes everything forward.

Will check tomorrow and let you know

Thanks again for your quick answer mate

The cruise control stalk is only 45 quid???

Yes? Spoke to Stoke Audi, but decided to get my from local dealer. I asked for discount and got it for £44.67 + VAT

Dont suppose this can be done on an 8L as well?

Didn't realise it was so cheap! Might get myself one!

I rang a dealer and for the 8P at least you need a new lower steering column trim (for a 3rd hole), a control unit and the stalk itself.

Now I know the stalk and column piece are essential but I wonder if the control unit is "optional" depending if the car alreayd has it there??

Your steering controller may be OK. Post in the Stoke Audi section for parts costs and Dave will let you know if yours is OK. You'll have to send him your chassis number though.

Hi, I have the lower cowling if anyone wants it. It is the non cruise part but there is a faint mark which could act as a guide if anyone wants to try and cut it out and save some £'s. Don't know what the outcome would be but its Free to a good home if you want to collect from Telford, Shrops.

hi guys,
i know this is an old thread but does anyone have the guide for retrofitting cruise control on the 8p? i am looking to do it but im not too sure how its done.
also if anyone knows how to fit in the cruise wire as i am being told that i may not have the wire in my car?
much appriciated guys :)

Have you looked on the vcds thread to see if there is anybody in your area? I would have thought there must be someone near to you

i always planned on fitting cruise never got round to it though i always saw more desireable mods and did without, gladly the s3 has it though! :)

Im sure there are some guys close to me but i know when i get my hands on the VCDS i would want to play with it for a few hours to test and see what i can do with it, plus i am making a little list of things i want changed on the car. I know i will be using the VCDS for loads in the future.
You never know maybe i will be so good at it that i will be fitting in things for others here :)

Just came back from speaking to the parts desk at Bexley Audi...
He doesnt really know of any retro fitting and was telling me how some things cannot be done so I just got the info i needed and left... :aggressive:

Anyway so he says he is not allowed to give me part numbers but could give me prices on the parts i wanted which is stupid but here is what he quoted me:
Cruise control Switch - £64.93
Lower steering wheel trim for cruise - £27.46
Are these prices ok?

He says that is all i need as i already have bought the ECU. Oh btw he says i have the 'F' ECU which is the same as what i just bought. does that mean that i dont actually need the ECU i have bought?

I had a new shape A3 (58 plate) and bought a new stalk after talking with the guys at my local Audi parts. Unfortunately it was the wrong part number and there was some confusion over it. Does your currrent main beam click forward to put on and pull back to turn off or is it push to turn on and the stalk returns to its normal position. If so make sure you get the right part. See the following link and the links in the thread that I have added. The part numbers are in there

thanks for that mate but i have an older A3... 2005
i had it checked at the dealers today against my Chassis number and they quoted me that price on the part. Might talk to Stoke Audi as we get discount there :)
