Retrofit Rear Parking Sensors?

You will need the repair wires & make up the looms, but again I say make sure the kit you buy is for the corrent year of the sensors you have, as they changed as did the wiring!!!!

Looking at 04 is pointless if your sensors only came out in 07
ye thanks mate, i been looking on etka for the 07 model,so apart from the buzzer and module what other parts or looms do i need?

Khalil, I think Nigel has answered your question, you will need to make them.

You have part of the loom affxied to the bumper, you appear to need the connecting plug (12 pin) to fit into the module. You will need several repair wires which will fit into the 12 pin plug and solder into the existing loom in the bumper.

Ryan bought his cable which goes from the front of the car to the module from Kufetec. The rest of the instructions are in the thread I think.

Edit

See post #82 for the link (although Nigel in his post #83 has said he didn't use one)

Do the parking sensors with the visual display, when used with a 2010 RNSe use a different module?

Interesting thread people.

Kinda related as it was mentioned.

It has been stated that the volume of the beep can be adjusted through vcds.
I find my sensor noise is very quiet (have to mute stereo to hear it).
Where abouts in vcds is it possible to adjust the volume?

Also, I see that the parking sensors have changed size.

My question is .... I currently have factory fit rear park assist on my se 2005 sportback. I am going to be changing my rear bumper for a s line one . I obviously want to keep the park system, so my sensors will have to fit to the new bumper.

To widen the availability of what I can fit, I believe that i will be able to fit any bumper of either a 8p1,2 & 3. However, I will be caused possible problems from sensor fitment to the bumper.

Will the brackets and sensors I currently have fit to any of the above bumpers, directly or by just increasing/drilling the o/d of the sensor hole in the bumper.

Would this be a similar process to what you had to do NhN?

Khalil, the part number for the repair wire is likely to be U 000 979 009. best check with the parts guys when you buy the 12 pin connector. From my experience they usually keep them in stock

i didnt realise you could get a visual display on the new RNS-E? I'll be its a newer module to get the visual signal into the RNS-E if it does surely?

Taken from the brochure.
7X2 Acoustic parking system (front and rear). Aids parking by acoustically indicating distances to obstacles. Also includes visual display in combination with Satellite Navigation system – DVD-based (where fitted)

It must send the info to the RNSe via CAN as the AMI does. Can you check ETKA for PR number 7X2, 7X1 is rear parking sensors only if it helps. My version is too old now..

7X1 says for parking distance control - latest - 8P0 919 475 F up to MJ 2009 and 8P0 919 475 G MJ 2010 on
7X2 says for parking distance control front & rear - latest - 8P0 919 475 D up to MJ 2009 and 8P0 919 475 H for MJ 2010 on

and in case your curious :

7X5 says for parallel parking assistant - 8P0 919 475 E up to MJ 2009 and 8P0 919 475 J for MJ 2010 on

meant to say its 8P0 919 283 D up to 2009 before it changes to 475 at the end

I think they are fairly quiet too & I dont have my RNS-E up loud at all. You go into the 76 park assist and its one of the options there, cant remember offhand though. Mine is up loudest though!

Aha good read Ew, I'm gonna go check my new gateway module to see if this has been added in there to code or its just a change in module type & uses the same module address in vagcom.

Also if RT have updated the label files to accommodate the newer systems yet as finding things are missing for newer cars/features.

Ah actually have to do later as cars at painters awaiting collection, *****, typical memory lapse, age related I think.

Yeah just spent probably 2k of my money as I will want this at some point, 7X2 module H would seem the one, damn it, lol, could need newer sensors aswell given mine are the larger older ones, just had the damn bumper painted aswell.

Ok found the H module for sale, but it does mark it as start stop, so this is another challenge as car doesnt have start stop features.

I was wondering what the difference is between old & new (apart from size & connector?) sensors. Will look into it when I get 3.7 finished.

Mr N, I think I saw one too in my travels. I remember thinking the same about the stop start. Maybe it just also supports it as opposed to being neccesary?

Yes I also think that mate, but knowing how the start stop system has changed the wiring in the car & the 09 module, nothings to be not considered here, cause you can buy the a3 with & without start stop so it must work of both, I will check elsa later aswell mate now I have them all. ;)

Have you checked your module yet?

Not yet mate, car isnt back from paint yet, long storrrryyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

I'll check by tuesday, be interested to know if this is in the gateway.

Aha got it all now Ew, so have you finished with it now?

Ok I checked in gateway for a module 10, it has the ability to tick this box for the module which is known as Parking Aid ll but only in the gateway long coding & I swear this was on my previous module, anyway will plug old one in later & check, but when you goto the vcds individual module window, 10 is shown as park/assist, so I need to check with someone where the new module comes up under 5052, see if its 10 aswell, this would be a favour & no guarantees of timescales when will know, but I will be buying the 7X2 pdc unit to temp connect to drivetrain bus to see if it works with non start/stop car, update when know for sure.

Also gonna get on that golf forum & converse with installer as to what module he went into for golf & what its called even if he says 10 on there, sometimes it is wrong, just wanna be 100000% sure before committing as they describe it as OPS but I'm sure its just under Park/Assist come Parking Aid ll, you know what BS floats on forums so better to be sure overall huh.

Got v4 N up & running, going for the update v5 now. Had to pop out for DL DVD, oldly my drive has started working again!!!

Had quick peek, am I right in saying the sensors connect in two pairs all together and then into the PDC, leaving a single wire from each sensor into the PDC?

NHN was wondering if you could help me out, i trust your advise more than my local dealer,
i manged to get the adoptor thats been cutted off and some repair wires, i follwed the flow charts in ELSAWIN, and all seems to be ok, (still not got the bumper on my car as yet) but i want to make sure that i have wired it correctly,
so when you said that the wiring has changed,,, but when i look in at ELAWIN the 2004 - 2008 models,, the wiring seems to be exactly the same, so was wondering what you meant by that the wiring has changed?
cheers buddy

The sensors had 3 wires from each going to an individual pin location on the pdc controller, but it seems later sensors looms had the 3rd pin from each sensor going into the loom & joining together within the loom & then connecting to a single pin on the controller, by all reports anyway, so double check this.

ok thanks mate
my each sensors had 3 wires coming out as following

red/blue/brown(red)
red/blue/brown(white)
red/blue/brown(yellow)
red/blue/brown(purple)

i wired it like the following diagram

Graphic1-9.jpg

so does this mean i done this right? it looks like i have but just want to double check

I had a look too a while back & though it says there is a change in 2007 IIRC the wiring seems the same until it changes 2008 to as NHN says about them linking and going into a single connection.

so how would i know which one i have? and if i have wired it correctly?
the part number of the sensors i have is 7H0 919 275 D

ah you are both right they have changed the wiring from 2008, but i think the why i have wired is correct, cause when i open up the plug ON the sensor itself it shows the same colours as the below diagram, and in elswin the 2008+ it shows in a complety different colour combo

Then you have your answer mate, colour coding would be a 1st port of call tbh, but we learn everyday guys, glad you did ok 1st time.

I'd go with the diagram you posted, it looks the same as mine & The PDC just supersedes through to D then it changes for the front & rear module & parking assist module.

I'd love to go full park assist but I'd need to change the interior buttons to the squinty facelift ones - thats too much a price to pay LOL

Oi, dont knock the facelift buttons, they truly are much better than the older ones trust me as I 1st didnt like but after a few days the difference was really noticable & in a positive way.

Also Ew, me & you have discussed it to death mate, by the time the assist had decided where to park, we could be parked & in the pub by then (obviously walking home) lmfao

That's only part of it N, when i realised its the signal from the canbus that contols the electric motor on the steering rack there was a rye smile on my face LOL

Same signal probably as the bixenon adaptive uses mate, where did you dig this from & why didnt you update me you sly dog

TBH, I'm guessing it from the PDF I sent you, there wasn't any extra hardware & looking at ETKA there doesnt seem to be a different rack for any models. I guessed from that that that it would need a 2008 on rack but then I saw racks are direct replacement down the line. I also saw a loom on another forum where the issue he was having was mostly his ABS contoller. Sorry, no link but will try to find if you want?

urm well now my main pc is all completed mate I can setup this with etka & elsa finally lol, I'll start doing this over weekend.

Can any of you guys with the latest version of Elsa post a wiring diagram of the 7X2 parking system please?
