Can you help a newbie with some retro-fits?

Hi guys, great forum with lots of info which I promise I have searched!

I have 2009 A3 cabrio and wish to retro fit cruise, MFSW, BT and RNS-E.

Can you experts confirm the following?

Cruise needs a new lower cowling and switch?

BT needs module, antenna, mic and wiring harness?

MFSW is straight swop with original wheel (3 spoke airbag)?

RNS-E (to be done when funds allow!) is straight swop? (I'm aware of antenna issues which may appear)

Now as I dont have cruise or MFSW at the moment I guess I need a new steering ECU? (SCSM?) Does anyone know which part number ECU I need to support cruise and MFSW? I see from searching the main part number is the same but the suffix letters differ, which ones will do the trick?

And lastly, might I need to change the slip-ring behind the steering wheel for the mutlifunction to work? What part numbers are good? I know VCDS coding changes are also needed.

I'd take the easy option mate and get either OEM Retrofits, TCL Sat Nav or Hazzy Dayz to fit them for you (depending upon where you live.)

Hi Chris, I used to have an A3 cabriolet and retro fitted cruise and RNS-e amongst other things. Do you have VDS or know of anyone with it? You will be able to find out the part number for your steering wheel control module, otherwise a telephone call to Audi parts with your reg number and they will be able to tell you. Once you know this it will be the starting point for cruise and perhaps the mfsw interface.

Cruise was a couple of hours to do, you will need the stalk and lower cowling. If your careful you can cut and file your existing cowling.

RNS-e is an easy retro fit.

Having read threads on here, the steering wheel should just swap over but need to check the air bag, there were issues regarding the air bag but I think this was on earlier models, but check before you buy one.

Whereabouts in the world are you? I could help out if needed and have VDS.

Have you seen how much they charge?! Yes I can afford it but thats not the issue, it doesnt seem that hard once I get the right parts so I will have a bash.

Yes I have VCDS, not the car at the moment though. Does anyone know the right SCSM part number I need to support cruise and MFSW? Someone must've tackled this?

Does anybody know offhand the repair wire size for the cruise control retrofit? Just got my cowl & stalk off of ebay today but being a 2003 model I will need the wire too.

As I am both lazy and ham fisted I got Hazzy Dayz to fit my cruise control. A word of warning, though - i've got the 1.6 tdi cabrio and it appears that the VCDS software hasn't caught up yet. Andy from HD came down from Hemel Hempstead to Portsmouth to fit the hardware (looked a bit fiddly IMHO - especially considering it was a new car) but in spite of having the latest VCDS software (downloaded from Ross Tech there and then) he couldn't activate it. He had to go away and Gareth come back 10 days later (yesterday) with an official-looking touch screen computer and wireless bus connector. Took 20 mins or so to do that bit. They didn't charge for the second visit and came down especially to do it so have no complaints about their aftercare!

Moral of the story is make sure you reiterate exactly what model of car you have, and be wary if you are doing it yourself using VAG-COM / VCDS on the 1.6tdi at the moment (other engines should be fine) Gareth said the software is from the states and usually lags European cars, as the 1.6tdi is a relatively new engine - it will still change some functions, just not all. Update expected in January, apparently.
