My car is about to be 2 years old, and I am worried there 2 items could be already letting go, since it is a common fault on the 2.0T engine, specially on the GTI´s. Has anyone changed either of these items on an S3?

If someone can throw me the part numbers for these items (specially the PCV and PCV tube) I will really appreciate. I am in the process of updating my car a bit, going to install some BBS CH´s, lower it and put a milltek turboback.....so I want to make sure it performs at best.

Thanks!!

The PCV is a weak spot of the 2.0 TFSI with the most common problem being a check valve failure. If this happens it would be very obvious as your car would not boost properly and would be blowing oil out of pcv and oil cap.

Rather than getting a new OEM PCV have you considered getting one of the after market options? The are many fixes out their ranging from simple PCV fixes, recirculation cans, and VTA cans.

I have the BSH catch can on my S3 and would recommend it. Forge also has a nice catch can system available.

I kinda dont like the BSH system for the fact that it relyes on the compressor inlet alone for evacuating crankcase gases, at high vacuum or small throttle openings there is very little venting (in my opinion). This is one of those things I´d dont like the way it is upgraded......I mean, there is A LOT of engineering on this engine.....I dont think blocking one of the vents should be the way to go....I know it works but I dont like it.....

The Forge system does exactly the same as the BSH system and blocks off the vacuum port so all the PCV gunk gets directed as if the car is in boost. Many cars have been running catch cans over many tens of thousands of miles with no issues so I really don't think you need to worry about it.

Running a Catch Can system will mean your engine runs more cleanly and the intake valves do not get exposed to the nasty effects of blowby gasses and oil which in my opinion can only be a good thing. You just need to be willing to empty your catch can every so often so a little extra maintanence is required.

Conflicting advice given here to be honest.

I'm not an expert on the subject but what I know is that the DV on the S3 engine (and Ed30 + Cupra) is in a different location to that of the 200bhp DV so it doesn't suffer from the same heat stresses and so far I don't remember hearing of any failures on the S3. Quite a few have gone for the Forge DV as a replacement to prevent the chance of the first gen DV failing but more and more have replaced it with the new piston type OEM DV.

I don't think there's any real need to replace the original DV but the new OEM one is only about £45 so it's up to you.

^ The remotely located DV and the PCV system are two completely seperate things.

+1 If it aint broke...I am not forking out £££ just to fill space in a signature block. If and when it does go, it will be replaced by the OE revision at a third of the cost.

I'm sure Staz knows that mate. The point is the OP asked for advice on the PCV and the DV.

lol no actually I misunderstood the OP! :whistle2:

??? Now I am confused as you still answered his question, i.e. he is concerned that either of these two things can fail/cause issues. Anyhoo, my brain hurts now/ :jump:

Update:
Yesterday, after posting, since I was a bit bored, I went ahead and removed both valves. The DV is the latest G revision (my car is build date 09-2007 for future reference to others) and was in top shape, no tears no wear, as Staz said, this item does not suffer heat stress as the other 200HP engines. Since it is cheap, I wouldnt mind replacing it but it looks perfect and should I replace it I would go with the new OEM piston one from the TSI engines.

The PCV is a whole other matter, yesterday I had quite a bit of reading on the subject, but did not arrive to any conclusions. Most catch can setups catch VERY little oil, but catch lots of water vapor (which occurs due to condensation being heated up as the engine runs). I dont see how this can be a bad thing, water vapor can indeed help with removing carbon build up, if you google water injection you will see what I mean. My car has the F valve installed, as far as I know there is a latest L revision but I am not sure if my PCV system is compatible with this valve (due to the check valves inside).

Do you know if this is the same setup on a 2ltfsi engine as i know it dont have a remote dv as i have already put the forge one on and that fixes on the turbo,

but im having some boost proplems and was wondering if the pcv system might be the problem do you reckon if it is that then worth uprating to a pcv catch can system . but i belive i need a sertain one becouse i have the carbon filter..

thanks graham

Yes it is

Correct - the reason K03 DVs are more prone to failure is because they get so hot bolted directly onto the turbo.

Yes it could be the problem but you would need to confirm it. Have you noticed the pvc system spewing any oil out?

do you reckon if it is that then worth uprating to a pcv catch can system.
Yes I would however make up your own mind based on the research you have done.

but i belive i need a sertain one becouse i have the carbon filter..
Both the Forge and BSH will work fine and both do exactly the same thing. If you go for the BSH you just need to locate it in a different place to the instructions because the US do not have the carbon canister.

yes i have noticed a tiny bit of oil around that area were the pcv is located..

were did you get your BSH street can and true seal induction from i can only seem to find from usa.

The latest is the revision "D" believe it or not, which is the piston type.

My bad.......I wanted to say that my car has the latest revision of non piston valve.....
