Hi guys

Toying with the idea of doing the above mods for a while.
Just wondering what effect each mod has on engine efficeincy i.e mpg.
Facts only please gents I want to avoid the 'hypothetical' opinions!!

Cheers
:salute:

Depend how you drive it. l get 300-330 miles out of a tank before and after all the mods.

Well you cannot do a turbo back exhaust without a remap as you will be removing your DPF. You cannot do a filter and CAI as the as both airfilter systems. None of the above will make any difference to your mpg if you did fit them anyway.

Have to say kinda pointless doing any of these without a power upgrade, then even with remap nothing will be really noticeable IMHO, I see you spending alot of dough & wondering what it was actually for mate, sorry to say, why not spend the dough on a hybrid turbo then custom map, that'll make you smile from L to R everyday you drive it.

so you cant fit a turbo back exhaust without getting a remap? even with a cat?

just noticed its for a diesel!! is this also the same with the S3?

Ditto. Any significant change to MPG will be down to the use of your right foot.

*I read your sig as the diesel 'gone' and you now have an S3?!

That suprises me.thats more than i get out of mine and ours are the same tanks but i worry because i dont know how many miles mine would get because have been told the senders to the gauge are not very good because its the same they use on the two wheel drive cars with a bigger tank? plus my work is only about 4miles away so not really warmed up and running effieciant by time i get there, also i know slightly off topic but how do you quattro + S3 drivers find them in the snow etc are they any good with the tyres been quite low + wide etc

Doesnt the 170 DPF require a map to reconfigure the engine for the dpf removal, isnt that what Mike's getting at why the exhaust change which would remove the dpf & possibly cat would need a map aswell, I seem to recall something along these lines as would get errors from the dpf non use, no detection of soot etc.

S3 is irrelevant given petrol & no dpf., turbo back may have a cat inline or without, on the s3 not advisable given emissions for mot where as its said the derv with no cat would pass potentially.

Hi Auld Reekie!
You seem to be the only one that's realised that and hasn't assumed I'm still in a diesel!!

lmao, good point I read the gone part & thought the bluefin map was gone, doh.

Pointless?
It's an S3!!

Comments based on misread you had the derv still.

But still dont think your mpg will change much if at all with those mods, with a remap then yes its more than likely going to affect mpg, but maybe the wrong way you'd like it too, lol

Are you planning to decat it then or get a TB with cat built in.

Does help if you put what car it is as all i had to go on was your sig, your current car should be at the top of your sig not the cars you don`t own any more.

CAI + TBE + remap will give you much better mpg on an 8P S3. Before my mods I saw 22mpg average - now 28mpg.
But who modifies a car for better mpg for Christ's sake ?
Efficiency should be the last and most trivial consideration in the whole process.

I'd have to agree, allthough I knew it gave me mildly better mpg, I think most do for the power anyway, with an S3 8P it is never done for mpg improvements, no way Jose

Thanks for your useful info!
Climb down from your high horses guys!! At no point did I say I was considering the mods to increase mpg!!! I was merely enquiring as to what the effect was-not that daft considering the miles I do and petrol prices on the rise. Incidentally when an Audi is designed you can pretty much guarantee that efficiency isn't seen as 'trivial '.
I am after a little more oomph when I put my foot down-not the biggest crime and wanted to know how this affected fuel efficiency -again not the biggest crime.
Sooo...back to my original question-will it have much effect or not really?
Proably gonna do it anyway!!

:)

Oh yeah its for an S3!!!

Didn't realise the order my cars were in on my signature was so life or death!! it does say "GONE" after the derv!!

Take some of your own advice if you want help/advice from others, considering the old car is in bold black & the new is a rather light shaded out grey, then you can see the possible misunderstanding, it usually follows the other way round on this site, also we're just commenting on the S3 & mpg, we're not saying you were expecting to get better mpg, afterall you asked about effects & we were merely commenting on this subject, so tone it down & we'll all get along just fine & dandy.

Brilliant.
I didn't realise we weren't 'getting on'.
As for the colours they were used to represent the colours of the car.
Very sorry.

Horses for courses. Not to worry, it gets temperamental in here some times. As lve said you wont see much difference in mpg. This has been true with all the cars l have had remapped. Well maybe not for the Lambo l have in the drive, its terrible.

Cheers Iggu-do you drive any differently now that u have the mods? Or is that like-for-like driving style?
Also does the TBE decrease spool up time?

Thanks

Like for like driving mate. I don't drive any differently - I just get to places much quicker with the extra 100hp.
On motorway cruises I see 36mpg regularly and the average never drops below 25mpg on any journey, including my commute into Manchester City Centre every day. It's made a big difference on my car I have to say.
