Dog Laws...

Now,

If someone enters a property unannounced (in this case a farm) through a closed gate, walks past and ignores a large, very obvious guard dog warning sign (and two kennels) and is then bitten by one of the dogs, what's the legal situation?
As I see it he hasn't got a leg to stand on as he entered the property and ignored warning signs, the dogs didn't leave the property at all.

Just wondering if anyone had any experience/knowledge on the subject?

Honestly not sure mate, common sense would suggest your correct but unfortunatly our laws dont work this way.

I remember I once read a story where a burglar broke into a house and the dog bit him. He then successfully sued the home owner. Now I can't remember if there were signs up or not. I think he may have been successful because there wasn't any.

As Dazmo said, common sense suggests that he hasn't got a chance. Stranger things have happened when it comes to the law.

I know for sure it doesnt work if you carry a gun and shoot the burgular!

your best bet is to call one of those shifty no win no fee personal injury specialists, they will tell you if the person has a case to sue you for compo...

If it's a guard dog (signs would seem to say it is) then by law either it must be restrained OR there must be a part of the premises where anyone entering the premises can get but the dog cannot, and so avoid being bitten. As long as the above are complied with then you enter at your own risk

Shame there isn't a law that states "People who are too stupid to read a big warning sign and then get savaged by a slobbering beast deserve everything they get" idiots!

I know for sure it doesnt work if you carry a gun and shoot the burgular!
