B*stards broke my wing mirror !

Some little tosser snapped my wing mirror off last night and left it dangling by the wires , not having a good weekend, the engine warning light came on yesterday aswell !

I have removed the complete mirror and housing from the door, now i need to get a new one, can anyone have a quick nose at this on ebay and tell me if it will fit?

i just want to make sure that it is the right one, my car is a 2001 facelifted S3.

This is the fourth time i've had mirror problems, 3 times on my old golf and now this, it's getting on my tits big time !

was considering running without a passenger side mirror, takes me back to driving beetles years ago !

I'm not so sure about that, my uncles 3-series had its passenger side wing mirror smashed off a few days before the MOT was due, and when he took it to the MOT station the tester said it didn't matter and it passed.

probably because it was mitagating circumstances but if the tester was as straight as a die he would of had to fail it.
The rule is that if the car was supplied as standard with it then it has to have it....a mate went to clean his golf up by removing the indicators on the wing and this rule was said.

Legally he can run with any 2 of the mirrors inc the interior mirror as long as it includes drivers side.

The Golf failed MOT as the indicators cannot be viewed from the side of the car and after a certain build date they legally had to, some manufactures made wrap around indicators to tackle it, and some fitted repeaters.

i have a wing mirror on order now, so should be back on the car before i drive it again. i have to wait until next weekend anyway as i am waiting for someone to run vagcom on my car as the engine warning light is on.

the old bill gave me a note to show if I was stopped.my mate was amazed I drove around like the pic below on both sides....was strange as I kept looking at the non-existent mirrors

Hi Vorhees,

Can i ask a question, when you replaced your mirror, did you get one from a breakers ? i got the mirror i ordered through the post today, but the black plastic part which attaches to the door (as in your picture below) is slightly larger than the one i have taken off the car.

The only way i can see to sort out my problem is to split the two metal parts of the mirror where the spring is to change this part over. I just looks like it will be a nightmare to get back together again afterwards!

Any suggestions would be a great help !

sorry but I had this lot to replace the mirrors

can't you grind it to suit ? the wiring comes through the black plastic triangle and has a connector on the end so I am unsure how your going to replace it.

It really should be the same size pal, it does tuck in behind the black rubber on the top door frame, all door mirrors are the same size on you model im sure....

There would be too much cutting and reshaping involved to get it to fit i think, but i am going to have a look on saturday, it'll be the first chance i can try to fit in daylight.

I'm wondering what it came from, if the A3 and S3 ones are the same, it might have come from an A4 or something similar ?

I have to wait till the weekend anyway, got someone doing a diagnostic on my car anyway, then a hunt round some breakers i suppose.

It is definitely different Pedro, different part number on the plastic triangle that fits to the door, the bottom edge is the same size, but the vertical edge is about half and inch longer and more on the angled side.
