S3 Audi - can you guys advise

Looks like a nice late example of an S3 8L to me and in a great colour too. I bought a July '03 S3 8L in July this year in Lake Silver with 65k on the clock, full leather, full Audi service history, Bose upgrade & 4 new tyres for £7500. So this one does look a little pricey to me. Having said that it looks like it's in really good condition from the photos. Definitely worth a look, a drive and maybe putting an offer in.

Mine needed the cambelt doing which cost me around £350, but I managed to get £300 off the original price so I was happy. If you want any more info just PM me.

usual dealer premium price. Thats exactly the same price that my dealer sold my old noggy s3 for less than a month ago. It sold in less than a week too. It was a year older but had fewer miles and lots more options.

You could pick up the same spec car for 8k privately, buy a third party warranty and still have £2.5k left to refresh the suspension, brakes etc.

Looking on Autotrader it does seem to be one of the more expensive cars, but there are not many other late registered Noggy Blue ones available, it all depends on what kind of deal the dealer will do, I bought my near identical spec S3 (mine had done just over 60k 2002 51 reg) from a Main dealer back in April this year, car was up at £10k, I paid £7750... including a free cambelt change, but I know I got a good deal.

I have just booked the above S3 on a system that I use at work, it trades at approx £8600 and retails at £10600, so it seems a little pricey based on this alone, but you will get 12 months Audi warranty and make sure the cambelt has been done and there is a stamp to prove it....also find out how many owners etc and the history of the car....I am guessing it was probably a part ex, for me it always helps to build a picture of what kind of life the car has had.

I think sub £10k is what I would be aiming to pay.

Chris

It has had one owner from new and all the stamps are in the book. Cambelt has been done and he has the reciept to prove.

What price would be a good offer to put in?

Is the S3 easy to live with. 225 horse would do me i think.

Nice set of wheels and come Blistens and i think it would be a very nice car.

Oh what to do what to do. lol

I'd go for £1k less than the asking price, maximum. One owner from new is a real attraction though, I must admit. But what does a dealer warranty really mean these days? A load of hassle to get anything usually!

So personally I'd still go for a private buy and pocket the £3k saving. Either way, have a look on this forum for the usual niggles/issues (I have an email list of AS.net links to most common S3 probs if you want it). There's loads of good advice on here.

Easy to live with? For me the S3 is a great car; practical, good performance in ALL road conditions, understated but slightly sporty appearance etc etc. Of course they all have their problems over time, and you should expect to have a few with a 6 yr old + car, but overall highly recommended from me.

And the AS.net is a great forum of course!

Thanks for that Doctor.

Its when you hear things like 6 + car a start to get worried lol.

I mean my current car is an 08 which i bought brand new and its only seen 22k.

Dunno weather to stick it out with that for a year and let the present model S3 prices drop more into my league.

Does that make sense lol....

thats the main reason I traded mine in. It was 7 years old, and I knew that it would need some money spending on it to make it feel like new again. Unfortunately, 'some' on a S3 nowadays can be close to half what the cars worth.

Thanks for that MadVW its nice to get insider info on a car.

The balance of a year old car to a 6 year old car, does have a big big swing.

One owner is definately a bonus, as I said earlier, I would not pay over £10k, put in an offer the worst they can say is no, I did this and with a bit of negotiation it worked. It will also depend what kind of deal the dealer can do, whether it will be a straight cash purchase or finance, and also if there is any p/x involved, as you know a dealer will always be able to bend the figures either way....giving you money off but then a crap p/x figure and making the difference back.

In terms of the warranty, I have only had to use mine once so far, and it is going in next week to Audi for a new door lock module, no problems with getting the work done. When I bought mine it had new brakes all round and fairly recent bushes and arb's so this was one less thing, the only thing were the shocks and springs, but these will be upgraded soon anyway.

Hope you manage to sort a deal out, it looks like a good car, just seems a bit too much at the moment.

Chris

Thanks for that Chris.

The ball is back in the dealers court, so he will come back to me tommorrow with some prices and any potential deal. From there I will see what i can do, and get them to bend the figures.

The colour is a real eye catcher wouldnt mind it, would be a change from my Red Derv the now lol.

SeanS good luck on the S3 hunt ! I'm currently in the same boat as you loking for a car.

Guys sorry to hijack this thread I just started a thread but no one seems to be helping, but this thread is pretty much about the same subject i.e. "what do you guys make of this car" so hope you don't mind If I add to this.

Found A Car that Looks IMMACULATE. Mileage is a possible worry though, but it looks so well taken care of and is certainly an impressive spec. Spoke to the owner, nice guy, going to visit tomorrow. Any Comments Appreciated. Thanks

Many Thanks,
Dan

Sorry mate - but personally i think 11K is well over the odds. Dealer prices eh!

I bought mine a month ago from a dealer. They wanted £10k but I gave them £9.5k and made sure they gave me their best 12 month warranty, 12 months MOT and fixed a couple of niggles. Mines a 2003 (52 plate) with average mileage at 67k.
I know I paid waay more than I would have done privately but i've got the car I want in the colour I want with the spec I want and the warranty is a bit of reassurance.

Again another true point. The warrenty is a big factor for me. WIll need to see if i can get an Extended warrenty on top of the 12 lol

With that spec I'd say £7k is a fair deal, but I guess it depends if you want an already specced-up S3 or a standard one to do it your own way. 103k is nothing to worry about in my opinion, assuming that you're not going to rack up big mileage yourself.

Will come back to you guys today and let you know the final word or whats happening with regards to the car.

Another thing, if you purchase in a dealership from Down South and you live in Glasgow. Can they get the car delivered to the dealership in Glasgow?

Ill sell you mine for 11k and its on 34k miles haha.

Although I would love a super low mile S3 what everyones thoughts on paying double for a 50k car over a 100k car?

a bit pointless really. Once a car reaches a certain age, overall condition and (working) added option become much more important. Most 7 year old cars will need allsorts of plastic bushes and corosion related problems sorted out whether they have done 10k or 100k. The only thing low milage should provide is less stonechips on the paintwork.

same rules apply when looking at a second hand car with low or high milage, check provenance and verify it. Find out common problems and make sure you can afford to fix them, because its not a case of if, but when.

Dude the car does look very nice bit it is very overpriced....it does have a of positives in its defence, however, it just doesnt justify that price, i would say £8.5-9k MAX and thats including road tax, warranty et, otherwise if you go private and slightly older, you may be able to get one with all the work done at that price.

very true mate, salesman has yet to come back to me.

Hmm, i don't know. We have 58 reg pool cars at work. Mini Cooper D, Skoda's, Saabs, but my S3 is still the better drive!

Looks very good with nice mods. Fast!

But the miles would put me off on a car that highly modified! Clutch replacement too?

I dont think that is too bad a price! espeshally as its from a main audi dealer! the warrenty that u get with the car is worth its weight in gold! they will cover pretty much anything for the year!

couldn't be ***** to read through but my 2 pense worth!

sounds a bit over priced to me, i work for a main dealer and i see some of the used cars we sell to customers, believe me you couldnt do much worse on a private sale, i bought a late 2003 53 plate noggy blue 225 1 owner and 60000 miles with cambelt fash except most recent small service carried out at an independant garage with genuine audi parts, 4 new avon tyres and pads and discs all round all renewed 4 months ago for £8300 with 10 months mot and 4 months tax, yes the warranty may be a bonus but are you really going to get £2500 worth of work done out of that to make it worth it? and if so then i think you would of bought a bad car anyway!

The salesman sold it before calling me back.

Ar well, back to hunting again eh?!!

I paid the deposit on mine before even viewing it. I did lots of research on here and knew exactly what i wanted. Luckily it was a good one. I had to get the train up to Middlesborough, buy it, then drive it home!!!

I know this car as it through friends', I would be careful, from what I hear it was troublesome and that is why they part ex'd. Loads of constant niggles and always in the garage. Not sure what was wrong but last I heard there was some over heating which prompted the sale. Also it has had at least two owners possibly three.
