Anybody know of a simple aux in adapter to connect to Concert head unit ?

Hi lads,

I am looking for info on connecting an iPhone TomTom car kit http://www.tomtom.com/products/features.php?ID=939&Lid=25&Category=2 with a 3.5mm auxiliary input jack to my Concert head unit. I know there are products on the market for this already (Dension) but I am just looking for an extremely simple interface that will just connect the TomTom car kit to an interface that will in turn connect to the cd changer input on the concert head unit. No need for displaying track info on the head unit at all as I will have full control from my iPhone in the cradle next to me.

I got an auxiliary input adapter a few years ago. Its a little box of tricks with a c able that plugs into the CD changer socket on the back of the head unit. The box also has two phono sockets on it. I then bought a leadthat plugs into these and into the earphone socket of my mp3 player. Its simple enough and does the job. Try the connects2 website.

Where did you put the Box? glove box? Also does it get messy with all the wire's in the car?

if you've just got the ordinary concert head unit, as fitted to my 2004 A3, then I've connected my car kit straight to the "telephone in" connections on the back of the unit.

There's a wiring diagram on the head unit itself and there are three connections labelled "Tel +", "Tel -" and "Tel mute".

As long as you have a "mute wire" as part of the output of the car kit, then the concert unit will cut out the radio or cd and play the car-kit audio through the speakers.

If you want audio quality sound though or the kit hasn't a mute wire, then you will need one of the aftermarket interfaces that connects through the "cd-changer" input socket on the concert head unit.....

Behind the headunit. Its about the size of a matchbox. Then fed cable between the trim and into the passenger footwell. When I use the mp3 player I just plug the 3.5mm jack into the earphone socket and lay the layer on top of the ashtray.

So the box is on your ashtray? Could'nt you of put it in the glove box ?

No it's not in the ashtray.
I removed the head unit and plugged in the auxilliary adaptor. The little box (i.e. the box of electronics that makes the head unit think i've got a CD multicahnger) was then fed into the hole where the head unit came from. So it is in the centre console. I also connected the additional cable to the auxilliary adaptor.
The end of the cable that has the earphone / 3.5mm jack, I then fed down behind the centre console and into the passenger footwell. The cable emerges at the interface between the two trims in the passenger footwell. If you look you will see the joint and if you try hard enough you can just get your fingers into this joint.
I then replaced the head unit. Box is now hidden. Only thing visible is a cable.
My mp3 player rests on the ashtray because I haven't bothered to fit a bracket/holder for it.

A picture of the back of the HU would be slightly more useful! If it's pre 05 then its ISO (top one), if it's 05on then it's quadlock (bottom one), but anywhere near 05 you really need to check as there's quite a crossover i.e. some 05's have ISO some have quadlock.
