Hey everyone, im off to France for a year to work and unfortunately I cant take my S3 as I will be taking my pickup. What can i do to make sure it doesnt degrade being laid up?
Im thinking I will get it waxoyled as thats worth doing anyway, are covers worth it or do they just scratch paint in the wind?
I thinki i'll jack it up to save the tyres and what about greasing the discs? My girlfriends car faild its MOT as the disc were pitted due to being off the road for just 6 months. Obviously i'll clean them up before I drive it but it should save them shouldnt it?
Any suggestions will be great, is there a good way to preserve the battery?

Thanks for any input

I think it'd be easier and cheaper to sell.

Where do you plan on storing it? My A4's been in my garage for nearly 20 months

I cant really sell it, I have spent a fortune on it and want an s3 when I get back so I would loose out more maybe by buying another that hasnt had all the new bits. I have a mk1 golf in dry storage I might try and get rid of but thats only a very remote option.

Ideally it needs to be in a dry garage with a cover on and on axel stands.

Perhaps something inside to absorb moisture.

I wonder if I can get a big bag of those silicone crystals for inside? Im really going to do my best to get the golf sold, anyone want a 1983 MK1 GTI!?
Minty, those wheels are cool, I had them on my MK2 16v:icon_thumright:

A dehumidifier would be good. I'd remove the battery altogether and probably plan to get a new one when you get back.

Take the wheels off if you can, find some cheapies to put it on or axle stands.

Too much of this stuff can degrade rubbers and plastics - dries them out and makes them brittle and crumbly.
I know this as a 'collector' of trainers!

I'd put it on some cheapo wheels & tyres, remove the battery and put it in one of these (if you have off-street parking):

I'd sell it, keep the Mk1 gti and look for a big turbo S3 when you get back...

Silica Crystals are a good absorbent of moisture
I had to jump in a pool and my uncle put my soaked mobile in a jar of these and left it for a day and it worked..these things are excellent.

But they will help to degrade any rubber bushes, seals etc if left in close proximity for a prolonged duration.
