my car is a 2005 2.0tdi a4 saloon 140bhp i was wondering if anyone knew a reason why my car has alot of black smoke when reving and is quite hard to start although i think the flywheels the reason why it is hard to start because it needs replacing.

Probably turbo seal's. Excesive oil in the exhaust getting burnt produces the black smoke.

Dont hold me to this, im just going off my past experience with turbo cars lol

Sounds like could be a fueling problem maybe sticky injectors possibly sticking open slightly more causeing more fuel being injected in which would then give you black smoke and hard to start especially from cold.

Most of the A4 TDi's do it!! I had exactly the same smoking problem (and still do), went to two seperate Audi Stealers with the problem - they all do it was the reply, we cant sort the issue. Apparantly it can be reduced with better quality oil such as Mobil but it doesnt get rid.

To be honest I would post a video up if you can as one persons excessive smoke could be anothers perfectly normal. If it does show excessive I would suggest it's more over fueling which could be due to a lack of air controlled by the maf sensor. I'd see if there is a member local to you with vag com or take it to a specialist to ensure no codes come up. Equally it could just be bad fuel so you could also try running a bottle of forte diesel additive through the tank to se. If it makes a difference and make sure you are using decent diesel.

I wonder if the particle filter in the exhaust has become damaged. My old Leon 1.9 150bhp used to spout shedloads of smoke out the backend but that was a Euro III engine so did not have the particle filter.

I haven't seen any black smoke from my B7 and I sometimes drive it a bit crazy :aggressive:

Might you have a boost leak/ air escaping from a broken/old pipe etc.

I don't think the particle filter was fitted until the 170bhp versions were released.
