Hybrid 55w revesing lamp bulbs......

Well, seeing as it's dark, and reversing lights are never brilliant - I decided to create some hybrid bright reverse bulbs using by mating a H3 bulb with the base of a BA15S!

Here's the visual result - I've not had chance to put them in the car yet.......

55W bulb will melt your lense and reflector, despite the fact reverse lamps are not usually on for great lengths of time.

I wouldn't do it.

Not at all, I was just caught off guard when I realized you had actually gone and created your own bulb!

Have you seen how much 'free air' there is inside the reverse lens?

I'll give them a go but will keep my eye on them

as long as the heat can dissipate somewhere then good but it doesnt have an escape hatch, but as its only short bursts it might be ok

Lol...a bit hard to "keep an eye on them" from the driver's seat.

But jokes aside, it will melt / distort your reflector and lense.
It's not easy reversing, and slipping into neutral, because you're worried the reverse lamps are on for too long.

Sometimes, you could be in a tight spot, where you'll be in reverse for a while.

There's the risk of rushing to complete your reversing, you could end up scraping your bumpers.

Before they go on the car I'll be doing some thorough bench testing anyway, which might include striking the middle ground and see if I can get hold of a pair of 35w H3's to try.

Saying that I could just strap one of these on my roof:

Actually - you were wrong (sort of!) .........the car wouldn't even accept them - it gave me a bulb out warning

That's because the resistance of a 55W bulb is much lower than a 21W bulb.

What about some really bright LED bulbs instead? With them you'll get lots of light - and you'll have to add a resistor to draw MORE current to prevent a builb failure warning!

Hmmmm - I've never found LED's to 'cast out' much light because of how directional they are, and therefore not so good with reflectors........saying that the next Audi R8 is going to have LED headlights!
