I have a real dilemma. My 2002 S3 has 57k is due a B service with haldex oil change, cambelt due @ 60k. I love the car but have decided to sell due to cost cutting and the need for a bigger house. I don't want to fork out loads on getting this all done, but I think this is obviously putting off buyers. I've had it since feb last year and bought it for 12.5k so dont want to lose that much on the sale.
Its in the classified on this site and also on ebay with a 9k reserve( didnt sell last week its been relisted).
Tax is also due end of this month!
Does anyone have any contacts for cheap servicing/cambelt work?
Does anyone have any suggestions as to getting the most for it with the least outlay?

You should post your location, it would help narrow down a sutiable independant garage.

ONce outside the warranty period Audi dealers are best avoided for ANY work! INdeed, I would not take a car within warraty eriod to a main dealer, there are so many trusted independants around that know aboutt hese cars better than any delaer will. Remember, they are a non current 5 year old model, nost audi techs were still at school when it was made.

Where are you based?

Absolutely, that's probably only about £500-£550 worth of work at an independent, and a potential buyer will most likely have Audi costs in mind at nearer a grand.
In todays buyers market it makes absolutely no sense selling a car like an S3 without it being in tiptop shape.

Cheers for the advice fella's.
I am based in the East Midlands if anyone knows a good independant around here?
Think I am gonna have to stop being tight and spend a bit of cash then!
Would be gutted to let it go for 8k :sob:

If you can get to Uttoxeter, I know a little garage that does all the work on my motor. V cheap and good work.

go to a recognised independant specialist or the work wont be worth diddly when you sell it!
Jabba are good and not too far away near peterborough

E-Mailed Jabba, no reply as yet!
Has anyone had any work done by 'Audidave' in Chesterfield?

As daft as it may seem I'm gonna get a scooter!
Only do 3000 miles a year currently and the S3 is a bit excessive
on insurance, tax and fuel for that kinda mileage.
Sorry about this but here is another daft question.
Was it ever an option to have a multifunction steering wheel on the S3?
As mine has got the cd controls on it?
Does anyone know of a good independant Audi specialist up Manchester way?

Awesome Gti in Irlam Manchester.

JBS in chesterfield.

Further south - Midland VW in Cannock.

I can recommend Midland VW mate, they recently did my cambelt, water pump and haldex, around £280 for the belt and pump and £80 for the haldex

Top quality work and a very helpful and friendly bunch

all sounding a bit desperate have you thought this scooter lark through ie cold, wet, high visibility jerkin.eeeek no heated seats, surely theres a better solution

Dont email jabba, they get hundreds of emails a day and cannot reply to them all! #

Give them a call.Phone is busy but keep trying. Phone is busy for a reason!

Try to go to a well known independant, some of these places mentioned on here i have not heard of, and whilst they may be very good, you dont want very good, you are selling the car....you want "very good and well reputed!"....So a prospective buyer willl nto be put off thinking it has ben done in a backstreet dodgy place!!

Stick with jabba, Jbs or Awesome of the names mentioned here. No disprespect at all to any of the others, they are jsut nto as well known and if you are selling the car immediately after a full serivice buyers will need to be happy all is "above board".

Agree regarding the "I know a friend / bloke" type recommendations but TBH a buyer who isn't already a VAG freak won't know how to discern between the specialists and many who are bothered by that will be looking for dealer stamps. Midland VW should be and are reputable and well known. Have used Awesome, JBS, and Midland VW and personally it's the latter that I return to time and time again and have never had a complaint with. Can't say that about anywhere else (oh except APS - just remembered them).

Many buyers might be more put off by 'names' like Awesome and Jabba if they don't know the score. Depends who you are selling to.

They only have to Google the "names" to see what a rep they have....

Hi mate I had a MK4 Golf before my S3, I always took it to Midland VW I know its not as close as you wanted, but there honest and the work quality is top of the range. I had a big full service, with Haldex and Brake fluid change for £280 all in. In my opinion you can't get better excellent prices excellent quality. Give them a ring on 01543 495700 and speak to Jody he will sort you out mate.

Hope this helps Chris.

Cheers Guys,

Its booked in Fri @ Midlandvw for the works, Full service,Haldex oil, brake fluid, cambeltand waterpump, £550 all in. Bit better than £1000+ @ derby audi. Will report further on return but research I have done on tinternet all points to Midlandvw being all round good eggs, have a look on some vw forums.

Thats a good price mate PM sent

Went to MidlandVW today, got to say very impressed.
They were really busy but cracked on with it and were all done in less than 4 hrs. Guy that runs it Jody dead easy going and clued up on S3's.
I hate paying for work I can do myself but didn't mind taking car there as it would have taken me all day. Even if I had the tooling!
Service book is all up to date now and for £540 you can't go wrong.
Just gotta replace rear discs and pads and it will be up for sale again.
Cheers fellas.:blackrs4:

Now go drive it a bit to get the use out of it!!
