Mate, i've owned a BMW 325ci before my A3 and no doubt i'll own a BMW again but even if i did i'd rather hang around here and converse with Audi drivers than BMW nuts. A lot of BMW drivers seem to adopt a persona to match the car, almost trying to live up to the stereotype....very strange!
 
It's not an anti-BMW comment at all. I even felt it myself... Driving a BMW just carries a certain arrogance. I guess it comes from the knowledge you're driving something 'better'. Applies to all high end german cars though really! It's like Jeremy Clarkeson said... Buy an M6 and accept you will never be allowed out of a junction ever again. To be fair though i think the most arrogant car on the road (or ever invented) is the Mercedes SL.

Very probably so. Don't get me started on Americans ruining European cars. They really do take the style out of styling. No offence to any Americans before i start a trans-atlantic war but you know....

I don't want to be a BMW driver (i know many and they all fit the stereotype!) but when it comes to getting rid of my A3 in 18 months to 2 years, there's not much else with an Audi badge on it which takes my fancy. I want a sports coupe so it's either an A5/S5 or....BMW M-sport coupe. I've got loads of time to decide but i know which way it's going.
Haven't heard any reports about the A5/S5 yet though.

Just to add to your choice.
Assuming you'd have a diesel, that is.

My first choice would be the 335 because it's an unbelievable petrol engine but if diesels keep getting better and better.... who knows. I'll see what my financial situation is at the time!
 
Hopefully, the Euro exchange rate would be better by then.
Current indications are the D3 TT coupe would be around £33k.
That's a lot of money, but it's down to the crap Euro rate.
Alpina seem to be more susceptible to rates of exchange, presumably because they're a small volume manufacturer.
Still, 214bhp / 450nm of torque and low roadtax (only 139 g/km Co2).
Pretty impressive figures.:applaus:

To be fair Bowfer, by the time i get round to shopping in this car diesels will have such a big chunk of the market due to taxes, emissions, refinement, fuel prices etc... If you're a petrol fan there will be some real bargains for lightly used cars with the bigger engines. Funny how things change eh!
 
audi upgrades
BMW's coupe prices are usually around 6.5% higher than the saloon.
Which suggests the twin turbo D3 saloon should be around £31K.
Quite a bit more than the £28350 for my existing one, but still quite reasonable, given that they have already said it will be better spec'd.
Oh, Alpina have also said owners will be able to add any BMW option witout having to pay the usual £2k special order surcharge.
 
go out and buy a big bag full of euros then while they are cheap ( not French one though :redface: )
 
So apart from the price tag, remapped engine and Alpina brand wheels (that I'm not personally a fan of) what else is different from any other 320D ?

How much more than the 320D is it?

It's not a remapped engine.
It's got:

Different turbo
Different injectors
Different exhaust
Different brakes
Different suspension
Different interior detailing
Different exterior detailing/styling.

At £28350 OTR, it's no dearer than a normal 320D M-sport.
 
How do they do all that for the same price as the standard car? That's pretty clever!!

What I now don't understand though, is why doesn't it have more power/torque. 200PS is a pretty standard figure for a decent diesel, I would have expected at least another 40-50PS.
 
Finally saw a D3 today in silver and I have to say it looked good in the flesh. Perhaps the darker colours don't suit the car.

Presumably, they get some sort of discount on the base car from BMW.
The D3 is (was) being looked upon as a 'loss leader' by Alpina though.
An 'introduction' to Alpina, sort of thing.

With regard to the power, I suppose they have struck a balance between power and driveability, goodness knows.

From what I can gather though, remap companies don't reckon they can squeeze much/any more out of it, so none are on offer just now.
