Hi All,
First time poster here. I'm currently looking at buying an S3. I will be using finance, probably PCP (low monthlies are important as my partner isn't keen to spend over 400 a month). Was also looking at leasing but kind of like the idea of having the opportunity to buy at the end.

So i've got about 3K deposit, and i'm flexible with the term (long the better really). Is this feasible? I was originally looking at used cars around 23K-ish but have recently seen this @ 32K:

http://www.fontain.co.uk/audi-s3-tf...sive-one-of-a-kind-in-buckinghamshire-6113379

However, decent spec for a new car via a broker (orange wheels) comes out after discount at 30K. Which obviously works out cheaper? Am I missing something here?

Cheers!

You also need to consider the APR rates you will get on second hand vehicles, it will be much higher than brand new (~10% vs. 5%). I was looking at second hand S3's for around £32k but it was actually cheaper to just place a new order.

Hope this helps.

Brand new is cheaper & would be a FL model rather than the PFL you have in your link, would have the benefit of being specced how you want it & having the full 3yrs warranty. I think you've answered your own question?.

I guess that has really, seems like a no brainer! Is the FL hatch available to order now? All the info online seems to be about the saloon version. Are before and after shots available for cosmetic differences?

If you go into the audi configurator, spec up the car you want and then enter it in to the link I have given you, they will get back to you with a quote. Hope you enjoy the forum :)

If like you said you are in it for the 'long haul' on pcp then buying new is far better than used on similar deal...
If you want to keep your monthlies down then I reckon you are going to have to put a bigger deposit down and possibly keep the annual mileage down as well...One thing to consider which will help with the monthly figure is to keep the extras down to a minimum..Good luck mate..:friends:

Cheers buddy! got a quote from Car-wow for the following:
My spec = £37,015, they will do it for £32,868, so 11.2% off. Works out on PCP as £385 per month over 4 years @ 3K deposit. Not sure what the APR is yet. Waiting for other quotes to come back but sounds reasonable?

I only achieved 8.9% with my £42k spec so yes you've got a good one there mate!

Not really fussed about VC TBH, firgure the (bigger?) FL screen is enough eye candy. Looking at an "ara blue" black edition s-tronic, but without the black edition wheels which i'm not keen on.

Here's a pic from the configurator:

Unfortunately you can't spec the standard wheels if you opt for the black edition - I preferred the standard ones over the BE but they wouldn't let me :(

Yeah this is something i'm not clear on. On the Audi configarator it wouldn't allow me to spec 19" wheels without also having magride. Yet the various broker websites allow you to spec 19" wheels without any mention of magride. Is this likely to be a mistake by the brokers I wonder?

I was told if you opt for 19" alloys then you require magride. As BE comes with 19" alloys as standard, you essentially get magride as standard.

BE comes with 18" wheels as standard. To have 19" alloys is £375 and you have to have mag ride at an additional £995.

All of a sudden the standard 18" alloys don't look too bad....!

A mistake from the broker side I think mate.

Coast2Coastcars are the cheapest I've seen on S3 at the minute. Followed by Orangewheels.

I got my 19" alloys for free - they were £375 on my invoice but moaned saying they are free on the configurator. Maybe the 19" come as standard on the saloon - it's still the case on the configurator.

Yup. indeed it looks like a mistake on the broker's website.

Ugh. Audi doth giveth with one hand (B&O system) and doth taketh away with the other (magride required in order to avoid clown shoe wheels). Very astute. Obviously they know their audience well.

19's and mag ride are standard on the S3 saloon, BE wheels are nicer than HB and SB too and can be swapped out to nicer ones for free too :) Just wish i could've afforded to go for a saloon again.

Ah yes that's where the confusion comes. 19" and magride are standard on the saloon, but not hatch or SB!

Have a look at real world pics. They are much nicer than the config makes out...

I put down £2700 on a £27k car and pay £350 a month. Want my brokers details?

It was nearly new and over 4 years and car always has equity in it as set residual value low.

Off top of head APR is 5.8. Residual value was very low £11.2k. At end of term car should be worth about £17k or so. This is off top of head, will have a closer look at home if you want

There are lower APRs about but normally on new cars. Higher residual value would lower payments but it doesn't mean car value always great residual for easy change or sell if the circumstances dictate. It's a little bit of personal choice.

Well that APR is lower than Audi, and you'll be paying about £3k in interest on a loan of £27k over 4 years, which isn't horrendous by any means!! Could easily reduce this by reducing the GFV further.

May I ask who that was with? I take it you found a used model, then borrowed the amount through a third party under that agreement, which is a loan secured against the car?

£3k on £24.3k (£27k less deposit) but yeah it's not bad!

Capital Car Finance. £300 flat fee and they look around market for a deal.

You basically get a rough quote based on price and type of vehicle, then they lock in funds for 3 months and you go car shopping as cash buyer... Then when you negotiate a deal with salesman you drop in that it's effectively a cash sale to them and collect their **** to hang on your rear view mirror as it will have just dropped out.
