My S3 Build Thread

Took a trip out to Aylesbury today to have new wheel fitted at http://royalsteeringwheels.com

Jack is a great guy, good professional finish. Really OEM feel, matches my interior spot on.

Hers the old shiny leather

And the new one ready to go on

Jack then swaps all the wheel components onto the re-trimmed version and re-fits outside his house

Only took about 20 minutes

Now the new look

Makes it feel like a new car, the wheel is 2mm thicker now which doesn't sound much but feels great. Nice drive back to.

This guy knows his stuff - comes highly recommended. Cheers Jack.

Oh and don't say I need to valet the car, I know!

Looks ace mate, it goes really well. Jack definitely appears to be very skilled as I've seen nothing but positive reviews and great work by him.

This has been on my list of things to do for a while, perforated sides with nappa top & bottom and silver stitching I presume? All with the 2mm thicker is what I'll be going for too, the only thing I was debating on was whether to have a silver strip as well.

Thanks, really love it. He can do anything you want so go for it.

Tempted as I wasn't sure if a strip would be too much but then that's why I thought that if it was at least silver, then it would be a tad more subtle.

If you don't mind me asking is it around the £150 mark? I like how the perforated sides match your seats, I've got perforated nappa seats as well :sunglasses:

What an awesome job! Think I know what I will be asking Santa for this Christmas!

After a week on Devon he he inside of me he car looked like ***** so a decent clean of every surface and crevice was called for

Then it hit anal, I even vacuumed the engine bay, cleanest I've ever had it.

Its official changing the front ARB is a complete pig of a job!!!!!

Finally fitted the H&R after a year sat in the garage and 3 failed attempts.

Didn't help when two of the ARB bracket bolts snapped the heads off! so the steering rack needed to be removed to allow the ARB to be lifted out.

One important thing to note if you do yours the ARB brackets/clamps are not seperatley by Audi so they have to be removed from the old bar. to do this the captive nuts need to be drilled off so the two halves of the bracket can be separated. The nuts can be reused though.

One happy S3 owner, never doing that again.

When I was changing ARBs I fitted Eibachs which come with new front brackets already attached ...

Great tip, if I'd have known I would have done the same

My tuner - Tuningwerkes alerted me of the hassle fitting the front one. At the time Eibach produced two versions with and without the front brackets. Although the bracketed version costs more - the overall fitting hassle and costs are reduced.

Finally got round to swapping out the Black Xenonz RS3 type grille for the OEM RS3 grille, prefer the genuine fit and feel of the real thing and wasn't so happy with the black look. So I now have the Xenonz for sale - PM me.

Wasn't the greatest day for pics and the car is dirty but its on.

Nice grille

I love the wheel trim style and the engine cover color choice @mechanic69 ! Keep thinking about getting my cover sorted too. Might go for a crinkle black finish with a touch of blue detailing.

Thanks, the cover comes to bits so you can pic and choose how it looks

Yeah, that was the plan. I'll send the main part off to get painted and do the rest myself.

A mate of mine knows a guy that can do very good crinkle finish. I'll post in my progress thread once done.

Are you local to Jack at Royal Steering Wheels?

4 new boots fitted, balanced and tracked. Makes her handle a whole lot better since refitting the subframe and steering rack and track rod ends. Went for Michelin PS4s this time round as the PS3s weren't in stock. Gave her a quick clean so may get some pics tomorrow if the weather is nice.

I'd be interested in what you think of the PS4s

I need some winter boots soon.

You mean ps4? as ps4s is a new tyre that will be released soon.
Ps4 are incredible tyres. so impressive on wet and rain. They just grip like it's dry!! they are outperforming pss in every way except dry track time but the difference is so marginal.
Ps4s are ment to be even better.

That's what I need to hear.

The R888Rs are going to have to come off the car by the time it's ready and I need a good winter alternative.

Not much experience yet but it ****** it down on the A34 on the way back and the car didn't even acknowledge the standing water, hope that's a good sign

Steering response feels really good but that could be just getting the tracking done after the ARB was fitted, watch this space

Fit the ALK - found it immediately noticeable ...

When I had mine fitted, together with a set of ARBs, turn-in was immediately improved. Not sure if ALK would affect things in the same way though. Still, car loves corners now!

had a great drive out today for an hour and a half and it bucketed it down, the PS4s ignored the standing water excellently, no pull whatsoever, braking excellent to. Direction and turn in great can't fault them

Thanks also for the feedback on the PS4tyres.

By the time mine gets back from Storm,I think the weather will be pretty stormy too....
