2.0T S Line Special Edition 2006, is it worth me doing these modifications?

Just taken the diverter valve out and there's nothing wrong with it, no tears whatsoever... Do I stick that back in or replace with the D?

just flip a coin, i'm still not convinced that you'll see any difference in your engine , better still fit the d rev then report back with your findings on any differing performance gains or losses, you'll be providing us all with very valuable data aswell.

what removal method did you use in the end to get it out chap, that one doesn't look that old either, maybe it was replaced by a previous owner.

That's the method... I was extra extra cautious being under the car!! Will report back after test driving later in the evening... Time to put all the tools away...

looks like a good method, and like you say , you can never be too cautious when it comes to messing around under a jacked up car, one mistake and it's all over...

Started the day of with the cam follower 45 mins all was complete except the last 17mm nut, just couldn't get another turn with the spanner to tighten it, an hour and half later after trying with different types Pliers, spanners I decided to head of to toolstation and bought a set of stubby spanners, 5 mins later all done! If only I thought of that earlier hey!
Replaced the cam follower and the seal despite the current one being in good condition buy hey at least I'll have peace of mind for the next 10,000 miles which will probably take me best part of 5 years to reach. Photo of old follower...

Then comes the diverter valve... I read lot of people finding it difficult to do this I on the other hand found this extremely easy but a little awkward, the difficult part for me was deciding when it was safe for me to get under the car after using the ramps, axle stands and the trolley Jack and still was scared! Remove the belly pans, undo the plug on the diverter valve, then the 3 bolts with 5mm allen bit and off it comes! These are the tools I used for this plus a torch - which is a must. Again about an hours work.

I noticed this while I was under the car and believe it's the snub mount, heard lot of people replaced this, should I be doing this, looks pretty simple to do and what benefits is there by replacing this?

yep, mine was the same , rub it with your fingers and it will crumble, did mine a few weeks ago, went with oem one, 10 min job.
now you just need to check your alternator belt tensioner, make sure it's not shaking around and rattling, should be smooth in operation no back or forth shaking, and replace the PCV to the newest version.

Okay Snub mount next on the list then...
PCV - what's the part number please?
Thanks

pcv is '06F129101L' and you may want the gasket too, quote your chassis number to make sure you get the newest version for this item.

Think I'll get mine up on the stands and check a few bits when I'm back off of holiday.
I'm tempted to try and source a good BUL lump for it or I may consider part exchanging it.
I really like the A5 coupes. but don't want a diesel, I want similar performance to what I have.
:)

Can somebody PLEASE advise me how do I fit these poxy pedal covers on, I am bleeding on both hands and so f***ing angry at myself for buying these absolute headache!

maybe time to step back from the covers for a while chap, have a nice long cool drink and rethink your method.

What was the struggle with fitting them matey?

So the DV diaphragm, it has no splits etc at all? Mine was shot to sh*t, literally came apart in my hands haha.

Soaked them in boiling water, used hair dryer, and silicone spray but still a nightmare, if it's any constellation the brake cover went on straight, was easy, as for the clutch and accelerator cover my God what an absolute s**t
DV yes I was surprised no damage to it whatsoever.

There is a fitting guide online mate, bit late now I know haha.

You may not notice much difference with the DV then. The old one may have started to become slightly less responsive if the solenoid had started to go but that's it mate.

Fitting guide oh gosh, Lol!

DV will take it for proper spin in the Weekend, I too am suspecting no difference other than peace if mind I guess.

After work today I'm debadging the "A4" I wonder how long that'll take me!!!

Rob, why do I need to replace the pcv - is this another inferior part audi replaced with revised version?
Whats the part number for that and the gasket please?

Anyone know the part number for the auto dim, light/rain sensor mirror and the headlight switch with the "auto" on the dial?
Thanks

yep, revised part is a much better part, doesn't solve the tfsi crankcase ventilation issue but is a big improvement over the first type of valve, it did make a big improvement to mine , didn't solve it complete by itself but added i'm using 5-40 ester based oil now the oil consumption etc has prettywell stabalized.

Is there any way I can find out which version I got fitted in my car without taking it out? Reason I say this because the cam follower I replaced was practically new or at least it look that way and the dv was in very good condition as well, this leads me to believe the previous owner may have replaced some of the problematic parts.

Nozrul mine were the same mate, and mine hasnt been changed since new (10yrs) the pcv is the next replacement for me to do aswell.
Although my dv did look like new, it drove better when i fitted the dv+ so im happy i swapped it.

the "bul" did have a revised cam and the cam follower issue was said to have been recified in this engine, mine was worn but not excessively, just changed it to cover any possible issues in the future, cant say on th dv front as far as wear and tear to it as audi changed it along with the turbo and other parts so I never got to see it .
The pcv is a known issue with all the tfsi engines so if it's not been changed from new you can only be in a win situation by changing it, and its not expensive either.

the problem with all these items and others is that ones persons problems may not mean you'll have them, the dv are a very debated area but a lot of owners never have issues with them, same applies too many parts.
As with a lot of things on the replacement front, you need to look at each case individually and see if yours really need doing, don't just assume that becuase joe blogs has a knackered Dv etc that yours will be too, it doesn't work that way ...if your taking a pre-emptive approach to replacing certain parts then that's fine but you may find, as you have that some did not need replceing but that's doesn't mean you have wasted your time and money , you hav'nt, you have just saved doing it at a later date .
I'm sure you get my drift chap.

what milage was on the car when you acquired it chap, and did you get a comprehensive history with it as far as parts being replaced by previous owners.
If you only cover approx. 2k miles a year , then it is possible that a good few items have already been replaced, if not then you are one of the few lucky ones to be honest.

I bough mine in june 2014 with just 29k on the clock with only 1 owner from new, and within the first year and with audi's approved warranty they had replaced a shed of parts that had failed or were not working properly , and I do mean a lot of parts.
I think I was very unlucky frankly to get a duff one but its been behaving itself for the most part now so glad I kept it, had it not been under warranty it would have been scrapped long ago just due to the economics of replacing the knackered parts.

Yes I fully appreciate I won't have to change these parts in the future and besides its peace of mind to have done it before a part goes especially when these are known to be problematic.
Okay I will order a PCV and gasket.

Bought my car in August 2014, with 52k and am on 57k now, got full service history with audi for first 6 years then at a independent garage, I was given 2 books, 2 keys, spare key cut out thing, etc but no receipts. I bought it from Stratstones Honda dealers in Bradford where the previous owner traded it in.
Wow, you were lucky to have bought it from a Audi dealers with all these problems arising after.

Debadged before and after...

Thanks Dani, although it's a genuine "S" badge, I'm not too sure whether I want it on or not??

on avants you can get away with keeping a badge on one side as the rear surface area looks bigger due to it being an estate , if that's your choice, but yours being a saloon looks way better without any , just looks less cluttered , a more clean finish .just my input.

Any updates on the diverter front.

Took the wagon for a proper drive earlier this morning but nowhere near as early as you Rob!

It seems to go slightly faster and a more of a whistling noise is evident but again all this could be in my imagination! Glad I replaced it though - that's another headache out the way and hopefully never have to replace it again.

you see, the revised ones are just as good as the old ones, and yes I do like to get out early for a traffic free blast around some glorious countryside, keeping within speed limits of course....cough cough, wink wink......say no more.....lol.
I do have a serious problem with my avant though, I think it is possessed as I just cant stop putting my foot down to enjoy the instant rush of speed and power....or it may just be me...haha.
