For that peace of mind, I'd get it done soon as.
ofcourse, I have always changed it on time. I just wanted to check if any damage happens if its not done but I guess its only if it actually snaps?Well, yeah if the belt snaps then it'd be a bigger bill. Though my old A3 its cambelt was overdue by 1 or 2 years never had any problems but I wouldn't recommend it, it's not worth the risk.
What's the mileage? Oil pump hex drive pin and listen for really metallic/tickety fuel pump. Other than that, solid car.
Cheers. Just found out audi did change the belt in 2013 but wasnt stamped in the book.Excessive smoke when driving normally and engine warm. You usually have a bit of black smoke when starting up from cold in the morning and again a little if you are slamming the loud pedal a lot.
I would put an offer on the car without the cambelt being done and take it to a competent VAG specialist to change it. Wouldn't trust a small dealer to actually do it, bought plenty of cars in the past with the dealer saying it's fully serviced and ready to go, only to find out the next day the oil is black gunk and a dirty old oil filter screwed in the bottom of the oil pump.

Think im definetly going to buy. Only issue i can think is that its red, hope the colour doesnt fade as im looking to keep it long term..
thanks for the info. So what can be done to stop the hex shaft causing issues? Is it an expensive fix? Wouldnt want the engine to go so dont mind doing any work as a pecuniary measure. If you can, i would scan the car with VCDS, in particular you should check the soot levels in the DPF
As mentioned earlier in the thread, there are known issues with engines fitted in vehicles up to September 2009 with the hex shaft that drives the oil pump, i've just dropped my 09 plate CR170 (engine code CBBB) into Audi to have this looked at as i'm petrified of this going. (shaft wears and no longer turns oil pump and starves the engine of oil).
With the above aside, it's a great car and great engine, good power and economy, no complaints at all

I think you just need to keep an eye on your oil levels.
Nothing to be scared about. The hex shaft and circlip are like £6 from TPS. Next time you do an oil change just change it.
Nothing can be done to prevent the wear. Even on cars made after 2010 (have a longer hex drive) the wear isn't eliminated just delayed. Later down the line it will still wear but the car will be well clear of any Audi warranty.
Oil level shows nothing to do with the hex drive wear. Mine was really badly worn yet oil level was perfect and never needed topping up between services.
Oh I see. Think I'll change it on my next service, would it be advised to change it to the 100mm hex or replace with something new?
I replaced mine with hex drive from the dealers...

To avoid hijacking this thread with this topic, i have created a new thread:

Back on topic; It sounds like cosmetic damage only which is relatively inexpensive and easy to resolve so i wouldn't let that put you off ...good luck with the purchase, post some pics when you have some
