Morning all,

Basically I've been googling away to no avail this morning trying to find out front seat weights in A3 8L 1.8T, they're the standard cloth sports seats. They're 'fair worn out' though so looking to replace with sports recliners/buckets and wondering about the weight saving. If anyone knows or could point me towards a thread that'd be great. So far looking at Sparco R100's or something Autostyle makes? :/

This is all coming from me deciding to attack the rear of the car yesterday (only owned a week), it was ridiculously easy to remove rear seats etc even for a novice like me. What came out:

Spare Alloy (Best condition of the 5!) - 18kg
RH rear seat back - 12kg
LH rear seat back - 6kg
CD Changer - 3kg?? (Brick like qualities)
Parcel Shelf - 2kg? Surprising weight to it
Boot matt and loose seat matting
Seat bases

What else is easy to take out? Lol.

Obviously the car is faster now :arco: but my neighbour (stunning blonde) did come out to find me kneeling down in the back of the car poking and prodding things, I assured her I wasn't being weird.....

Many Thanks!

The thread is also very long and pictures don't come up 95% of the time at work (shh it's my break obviously), and pics are the best bit :( I'll have a good browse though cheers

Pics or it didn't happen :p

Rear door cards and front door cards are fairly simple to get out and with the speakers in them they turn out to have a wee weight to them - probably like the parcel shelf.

Not sure if your car has an SAI system but if so that's a weighty POS! lol

How would I take a picture of that!!! Haha, I had to very awkwardly get out the car as my door was open and the poor girl couldn't get in her car. You'll just have to take my word that she is hot and definitely thinks I'm strange :whistle2:

Definitely having a go at the plastics at some point but I don't want to rip or damage anything, the sub will come out tonight too me thinks - CD Changer packed up anyways.

I've just read a little on the SAI, no idea if I do but sounds wayyyy beyond my skills, leave until it starts failing I guess.

Hope that ^worked, looks pretty tidy I think.

Cheerss!

I have a front seat out at the moment will weigh it at lunch for you if you want.

I've been reading the 'Prawn & Big Al' thread and it looks like they weigh around 25kg each, so 50kg out and 25kg back in with buckets probably. Unless you want to really know and share it, don't want anyone to go out of their way. Just a rough idea :o.k:

I'm worrying about this resistor malarkey with the airbag sensors etc now but this is all planning ahead at the moment. No funds = no mods :sob:

Thanks!

Haha- if she thinks you're weird already then taking a few pics will fit the bill perfectly :)

I took the whole of an interior out on Saturday dude along with the sub in the rear side compartment.

The sub turned out to be the hardest part tbh - the rear door cards just needed the trim all pulled off on top and then gently pull it out and it will all un pop. With the sub we had to practically take out the whole rear left section to get enough room to get the sub out properly.

Well unless you just hack the sub to pieces and remove the broken bits that way :) lol

Yeah 24.4kg for the passenger seat (cloth). If your on a real weight saver take the air con pump out and all the heater system

Kwistof - It's cool, as my experience grows I'll obviously be able to offer help and advice for her Skoda. My gf might not be too happy about that though :asskicking:

I wanted to take the Sub out but I got stuck with the left most fitting and gave up as I didn't know what it was at the time. I'd like to have a go at rear plastics at least though. Daylight / Gf allowing lol.

Nick - Nice one, sounds really heavy for just a seat! I'd like to keep some creature comforts and if I start searching for the odd kilo, I'll never stop! I may go for tidy/minimal.

Thanks guys

Im in the process of stripping my s3. I took all the stuff in the rear out including the tailgate plastics. Rear door cards. All sound deadening. I have one oem drivers seat at the moment.centre consoles gone as will the carpets be.all engine covers and fogs will go. Sound deadening under the bonnet to. Cars in having fixed buckets and 6 point harness's fitted. Cant wait to be honest. With all this gone it sounds epic compared to oem. Goes like mad and im still only on stage 1 oem exhaust etc. Everything has improved. (Performance wise of course)

Only thing i havent removed which i want to but not sure how is seat belts. Also if anyone figures out how to sort the airbag lights post it please as im stumped. May have to get them mapped out.

Hi Daz,

Wow major car diet then! Sounds awesome! How do you find the car with all that stripped out, would have thought it'd be a little extreme for the road? I do want to get home and start going crazy though now haha.

I found a few threads by just googling about it. You have to get resistors that apparently just plug into the end of the air bag lead and you're all good. Some cheapy ones from Maplin too. Although you may still need to get the light mapped out/wiped with a vagcom?? I know nothing about this stuff, I've just read a little on it today. I believe if you disconnect the battery whilst removing seats and put in resistors straight off the car may not throw up the light at all though as it won't know the difference, but for the love of god don't trust me on that! :noway:

Yeh ive seen maplins resistors work. Think im going to get them mapped out. No problems on going that way.
I cannot tell you how much i love it like this, but i do around 2k per year so its a social car only, im going to be tracking it this year if my list of essential track parts would stop growing lol
My car has gone from bland to exciting but i doubt everyone else would agree!!

No fella i can try? Ive read they are 35kg, but its a 2 person lift as they are heavy and large. (Im no girl plus i had a 75 ft walk to my house)my new ones i can lift with one hand including subframes.easily!!

I'm starting to think I should go a little further with the stripping out. This is just a fast road/track car so it doesn't have to be refined. Probably not so far as to take the dash out but maybe all matts and rear plastics but leave door cards and dash. My progress tonight was getting the sub out and removing some rear plastic, well removing it to get the sub out lol.

Woah 35kg! Jeez

Sorry Daz, but out of interest what buckets are you having fitted? I'll need to go find somewhere where I can try some out I think.

Ive gone for some autostyle bs7. To be honest im likely to change these if all goes well. I just didnt want to spend out lots of cash if it doesnt work out or i dont use it as much as i hope.
Although saying that they are extremely light, very comfy and i think they look good.
Will see how they get on i guess.
Problem is im getting ocd about it and want to remove everything.
Air con
Stereo
Sub/amp
But i dont want to get carried away. Im leaving it till i get it back. See how i feel.

Not a bad looking seat bud, I was going to skimp to the max and get some Auto Style K5's but I can't find much info on them or Auto Style in general. But I've never sat in bucket before so no idea what to expect.

Do it!!! :nyah: My CD Changer failed so that's gone, Subs gone, head unit will soon follow. Wonder if something useful like a boost controller or something would go in there? I know how you feel with the OCD, you just think well maybe this little bit here and that won't hurt. It's free performance at the end of the day.

Thing is these little bits here and there can collectively add up. Im stopping for now. See what noise levels are like when i get the car back.
Tbh im really pleased with the seats. I like them a lot. As i say this is a test atm so im not spending mega money to then sell the car for someone elses benefit. I found very little info on the brand but tbh any info i did find was positive. And my seat is a replica of the bimarco futura. They are getting a very good name for themselves. I was told they were made in the same factory. No idea if its true though. They look near identical so maybe.
Where you looking at those?

Fair enough, my A3 isn't worth much so doubt I'd sell it on. Bonus for me really.
I've been looking at GSM Performance, big range and they offer fitting sessions and options to try loads of seats + prices seem very good. Only problem is they're 2 hours away and I'd want to choose and have them fitted right then! I have zero patience. Just found a local place that offers Sparco Sprint V's and OMP TRS's for a tad more though. Decisions and all that.

Gloucester, Ive been told thats a good thing  because it means I'm close to Badger5

Btw metal framed seats are no where near as comfy. As prawn on here told me.
