I have owned a G220 but i dont like the big pads it comes with as it takes longer to get a finish with them, ok you can get smaller pads for it. I currently have a Das6 prefer this and never felt the need to move to the pro tbh. also have a sliverline rotary which i dont use much as i lost the backing plate lol. Megs 105 & 205 are great i use the 205 all the time your not going to get 100% correction using them but its what level you want- Pay a pro then maintain yourself or get it to at an acceptable level by machining yourself takes time. if you dont like it you can always sell the polisher as theres always someone looking for one....if you want confusion check out menzerna products I still dont get them

105 is compound and 205 in a polish a great combo!
But I personally like the 3M polish less dusty and is a 3 step rather than 2 step above so you get more of a refined finish IMO!

Well I finally ordered a DAS-6 Pro with hexalogic pads and Meguiars 105 & 205 from Cleanyourcar. Even found a 7% discount code! 
Yay! Try the #205 first, if that doesn't do what you need step up to the #105. As you've no doubt read, least aggressive combo first. Also the Meguiars polishes are SMAT (have a google). This basically means if you press on them a bit more you get more cut, if you back off it doesn't cut as much.

The only problem with the 3M stuff is that its full of fillers so kind of defeats the object of trying to remove all your swirls. It is good stuff if you want to hide tiny imperfections.

I always do a IPA wipe down regardless of what I use so does not really affect me!
But for someone who does not know then fair enough, But 105 - 205 its a ok combo and fine as a quick go to if thats what you want! but It's not refined enough for me personally to get the finish I love.

So what do you use? How many different finishes can you get? Surely once you have removed all defects and you get a good, deep shine, that's all you can get. Or am I missing something?

Well as above theres no right or wrong just what each person prefers ie you wouldn't want to use 105 on Jap paint as its so soft etc!
A lot depends on what car your correcting and what polish combo suits you and the car in question my Audi has a ceramic clear coat and jeez it's a hard git lol!
Your not missing anything just try and see what combination you like best, but for me it's 3M as thats what I know and love to work with, but each to there own!

The meguirs G220 is brilliant, but the best one to get for your money is the Kestrel das6 as the internals are exactly the same as the Meg's one, but £££££ cheaper

That's exactly the same kit as I've ordered from polished bliss, even better as it had 10% off as well.

Just got the orange and white ones. I believed they were for the 2 stages or am I wrong?
You can 3 step, but your probably only going to use the the medium white and a black/red/blue fiinish pads depending on how bad your paint is orange as a last resort, I havent used there orange pad but have the green, white and blue ones.
My paint is not that bad (just very light swirls) so maybe I won't need the orange then. Right, so it looks as if I need a red pad then! Thanks for the advice as I'm a newbie to detailing it can be very confusing with all the products available.

Ewan if you get into any difficulty mate just gimme ring. There is no harm in asking for assistance with something like this. I would rather people ask or phone up rather than plough on, get it wrong and burn/damage paintwork. My number is on my website on the contact page if you need any tips and Al is just down the road if you need any demos. Im sure he would be happy to help as is everyone else.
Just managed to get a door panel to practice on from the local bodyshop. Let the fun and games begin! ð

Remember, let the weight of the machine and pad do the work for you. Very rarely do you have to put any kind of heavy pressure on the pad.
Well had my first go on my practice body panel and after 3 passes I managed to remove all swirls. So easy to do! I'm well impressed!

I used orange hexlogic pad and Meguiars 105. I followed junkmans videos from YouTube which were very helpful.
It's been a few weeks, have you tackled your own car yet or still practicing on the panel?
Not yet pal. I'm hoping to shortly as I was waiting to get some wax (Angelwax Desirable from Brotek). I hope to get it sorted soon and will post up pics.
