This is something I've in mind for a summer retrofit, but I've put the wheels in motion with a PM tonight to enquire about some prices. Has anyone done this? I'm sure I've seen some photo's on here..... (Woorlord?)

According to ETKA, both the lights have the same part number of 3B0 947 415 B. ETKA shows all four doors as having puddle lights, but Elsawin only mentions them in the front? I will look at the car tomorrow, and if there are places in all four doorcards then I'll do them all. This should be an easy retrofit for me, I have door marker lights, so even if the loom isn't in place It's easy to wire one in. Worse bit will be taking the door card off if necessary.

Its the footwell lights that look more challenging. I think they must be wired into the interior light circuit, can anyone confirm this? Any pics of mounting places would be great - and also the below diagram (sorry its small :( ) shows a footwell light holder (no. 34) so I guess I'll be needing these. ETKA only shows footwell lights in the front, has anyone retrofitted them in the back, ie under the front seats?

Any advice/comments/pics appreciated :icon_thumright:

Hi James, keep a record of part numbers if you don't mind as i too will do this mod, however i'm going to do mine slightly different, i will do puddle lights although i don't really see the point as if there is a puddle you will already be stood in it, and i can normally remember what shoes i put on before i came out but i suppose it looks nice and i am running out of things to do:)from personal experience i wouldn't worry too much about putting led's in them as i changed the bulbs in my door markers for led and to be honest the bulbs are brighter proberbly because led's are directional, as for the footwell lighting i am going to use the same red lights that are in the doors (i beleive they are the same size) and add them to the lighting circuit so to extend the ambient lighting(i have alight feed in the rear already as i fitted a cigar socket to the rear of the consol for my daughter to charge her ds but part numbers for brackets ect would be a help:icon_thumright:

Thanks for that link. Robin has done a nice retrofit into the existing loom, which is great but would require VAGcom to recode, which I don't have :(

I found THIS thread where Woorlord has posted an interesting guide connecting them into the convenience module - still needs coding though! :readit:

But it would seem that front and rear footwell lights are possible, which is good :icon_thumright:

The part numbers I have to date are:

FROM ETKA

8D0 947 411 - Door marker lights

3B0 947 415 B - Puddle lights
3B0 947 415 B - Front footwell lights - same as puddle lights
8E0 947 113 A - Footwell lights holder

FROM WOORLORD'S POST

8E0 947 113 A6 PS - Rear Retainer
8E0 947 101 - Rear footwell light

I will update some prices when I have them.

James,

I fitted puddle lights to all four doors on mine. They are the same light fitting for all.

As I had the red lit door warning markers already wiring up the puddle lights was easy. I just got some genuine connectors for the light units, some repair wires (a length of wire with connector pins already on them) and spliced them into the supply for the red warning lights on each door.

If you are doing this mod then make sure you buy several of the plastic clips that hold the door card on (several big black ones and a few of the small white ones for the top edge). There is no way of getting the door card off without breaking these as they are designed to break!! On average I reckon I replaced 50% of the clips on each door card due to breakage.

As for footwell lights I have no experience of these (yet) but am very interested in doing this mod in the future so looking forward to seeing how you get on.

Thanks for the confirmation Garfie. I had thought as much with the marker lights fitted. I'm thinking for the footwell lights I will probably just splice off the interior light circuit anyway, to save all the VAGcom coding hassles.

I know what you mean about the door clips, they're pretty much a stock item for me lol!

I fitted Footwell Lights as follows >>Link Here<< all parts I used are listed.
Each light comes on as door opens - signal fed from Convenience Module as per OEM spec.

Toying with puddle lights wired into the red door markers as something to do next!

If you splice off the interior light circuit wont all the footwell lights come on everytime one door is opened.(would annoy me but thats just me) Not sure if this is what you want. If you just want the one on for the relevant door that is openened and dont want to bother with the coding can you not bring a feed back from the puddle light when you fit them? That would sort it easier wouldn't it? its then just the same as splicing in the puddle light:idea:

That would be the way to do it but trying to bring a feed back into the car from the door would be a nightmare (Trust me I have run uprated speakers cables into the doors)

Best bet if you want to hook into the puddle light/red warning light circuit would be to see if you can locate it inside the car in the footwell somewhere.

If not it may just have to be the interior light circuit you hook into or the comfort control module.

Good point, although I don't think that would bother me. In the respect it was non oem it might - but in practice I think having all the footwell lights on when you get in and out would add to the interior ambiance.

Agreed, that would be a nightmare, I'd sooner buy VAGcom lol! Trying to locate the marker light circuit before it passes through the door maybe an option though.

There are no signals in the footwell area or kick panel area for the door marker lights. The door connector carries CAN-BUS L&H, Power (12v/0v) + Speaker +/- and maybe auto-dimming mirror signals (2 wires).
The door markers are controlled by the door control module via communications with the convenience module over CAN-BUS, (same with electric mirror positioning & heating, electric windows, door contacts & alarm signals, locking, etc.).
This is a neat way to keep wiring to a minimum.

The lights are just over £8 each, so I'm going to order four up as puddle lights in due course and do them first as they're the easiest option!

I still need to take one of the rear door cards off to replace the electric window switch, and I've got some spare trim studs in anticipation!

ive done the footwell lights and have put in red bulbs, but ive wired mine into the light switch as i wanted mine on with the lights at night, they also dim down with the dash lights as there on the same circuit.
sound chavy but it isnt, looks realy well at night with the red dash lit up and the red footwells

That sounds really cool actually. A better electrician than me could probably connect them into both circuits, so they glowed a bright red with the doors open, which dimmed to a more subdued red light for normal running. Have you done that front and rear too?

What would be nice would be a white light with the doors, and a red light once up and running.

im liking that idea, why not fit two sets then, a red one from the light switch circuit so it dims as per mr 1wheelonly and a white one from the door open circuit?

i havent got the bit in the seats for the lights in rears, think it because mines a cab and doesnt have rear doors

the fronts do look good though, especially against the rs4 pedals.

ah, also the drivers side, i made a new hole for the lens as it is way over one side and quiet far back, not central enough like the passanger side.
just a heads up whilst your on ya knees wiring.

I haven't entirely forgotten about this, it's still on the list! But lack of time, money etc :blahblah1:

This might be of use to someone though:

I have ordered most of the parts for it

But I only have the red reflector in the doors. They put nothing in the sports.

Wondering if anybody has done the puddle and warning lights in a standard Sport?

Footwell lights seem to be easy enough

My Sport had red door warning lights but no puddle lights. When I fitted the puddle lights I took a feed from the door warning lights for mine.

So has anybody else seen sports without them?

Would it be possible to still take a feed from the door to power the two light , door warning and puddle?

May be worth taking your doorcard off and seeing if you're lucky and have the loom and connector 6 (in quattrojames's diagram) first, although knowing Audi, if your car didnt have it as standard you wont have it.

So the both of you are driving Sport Avants. Maby they only came in them

Ah i'm slowly getting this car up to 'spec'

Just done mine like that using some old ikea white LED strips with some red film taped onto them. I wired them into the headlight switch as it is easily accessible and didn't remove any other trim apart from the fusebox cover. Took about 45mins, Zero money spent and very subtle just as I wanted it to be. Obviously being subtle means it's a b****r to photograph but you get a vague idea.

So those are always lit with your headlights on? Think that would annoy me whilst driving at night. lol.

I have puddle lights but not footwell lights on mine. Something to look into.

Did you buy the led striplights as they are or have you removed them from a piece of furniture from Ikea?

Dan

I had one of these lying about, but any LED strip would do, there are other cheaper ones and flexible too.

I wanted the lights on whenever the headlights are lit, it is very subtle and tones well with all the illuminated switchgear.

No puddle lights on mine tho'...
