i have 2.0 tdi 140 2007 with 75000 miles and without my tdi map i get on a dry day 38-41mpg and with it 53-57mpg, could this be the EGR need cleaning as well as inlet manifold and if so how easy is it to remove, i have read up on how to clean them but nothing to remove them.i have all so got a EGR blanking plate is it worth it as this done wonders on my disco 2, but that is a bit of a dinorsaur lol,

Somebody not constantly moaning about turbo petrol MPG will probably be along soon. They're all probably out driving because they can afford it though.

I don't see what the problem is leave the TDI map on better fuel economy job done.

My 2.0 TFSI with remap gets about 33mpg with my usage pattern, I don't consider that to bad... and it's a cracking engine :)
 
Stage 1 S3... Usually see around 24mpg haha

I had to drive to tesco not long after i'd seen this post so I thought i'd conduct a little experiment.... Went a 5.3mile round trip on city streets, no aircon, no radio.... Drove like an absolute grandad, not letting the car get above 2k rpm and nlt hitting faster than 37mph... This is what I got, driving like a grandad does help! :) ha

Do know why the image has uploaded on its side, but you get my point!

that was motor way driving at 80 so i feel a little better, the reason for my question was people on this forum with same engine was getting 50 mpg+ without plug in tdi
 
Your mpg will be determined by so lot of factors and you can't really compare against what others get as you don't really know what kind of roads they are on, how much traffic, speeds, how harshly they accelerate etc.

Standard for me to 24mpg too. Although on a 80 mile motorway run yesterday I got 32mpg which I thought was fantastic haha!

OP I had my old 170 mapped and the economy was much better, also had my egr blanked and inlet cleaned in the process. I'm led to believe having the inlet cleaned helps but can't confirm either way as it was mapped at the same time. My understanding is it is relatively easy to clean/blank although I just paid someone to do it for me.

tbh, I find a turbo car is dire on the MPG just because I'm childish and get on the boost at every available point lol

Remove IMF, EGR & check the state of insides, if its bad then stuck a finger inside the manifold & drag a bit & see how thick the layers are, if its thick, remove manifold aswell & clean all 3 parts fully, get new seals/gaskets & fit a catch can to stop so much crap getting in then see how you get on.

I stuck my manifold in dishwasher about 10 times after manually scrapping the ****** for hours, jetwashing at garage 5 times & brake cleaner to soften the build up, it was back to metal when I refitted, but I'm anal about things.
 
check thermostat too make sure its reaching proper temps
 
yes as above don't rely on the dash gauge as that can be out, use vcds or torque app.
 
Seems to be reasonable fuel consumption there, my BKD is exactly the same MPG, no map, for mostly around town driving.
A clean up of the EGR and other stuff will help a bit.
 
I had to nip across town the other night quite sharpish, managed a whole 7.2mpg..
 
Id be happy to see 20mpg most the time!! the 3.2 drinks it like no ones business

i have worked out my proper mpg from fill up and i am geting 43mpg so the computer is wrong by a long way, getting some one to look at my egr and then order gasgets and get cleaning lol

Long term on my 170 is 47mpg, always get 500miles to a tank! Agree mpg is a bit less in the winter but not by that much on mine! (though yours is a quattro it will use a bit more). Mix of motorway and a-road, not a massive amount of urban driving though.
 
Coolant Temperature Sensor and thermostat are the main culprits

had it pluged and all is well no errors,got it booked in to get the egr removed 2mrw so hopefully that should be better,i have taken off the egr and gave it a good clean and it wasnt to bad, i am glad i have a parts cleaner

the garage has put a cleaner in my tank to try and clean the injecters and inlet manifold so my fingers are crossed lol
 
I think to be honest you are looking for a problem, the mpg figures seem about right to me

I also think most people have the wrong perception of Diesel engines, thinking a few litres of fuel will last for weeks!!!

I don't use my car much now, I bought a 16yr old diesel van (2.3 N/A) converted it to run on waste vegetable oil & it may not do great mpg but it doesn't cost ****** all for my fuel :p (ok I tell a lie, I'll pay up to 25pence a litre if I don't get it for free)

on your post at the bottom it says that you have had egr delete, i was wondering if you just used a blanking plate and if you noticed any dif.
 
Yes have blanking plate in, do keep meaning to remove the lot, I have the cooler bypass connector just never got round to it, but EGR has been mapped out... It will give errors without it being mapped out

To be honest I never had a problem with the EGR, I just wanted it blanked out as I only really use it for short journeys, so at the time of the map it was one on the list

no real difference that is noticeable, I just know all the crap isn't going back in the engine!
