It will need activating by Audi I'm afraid :(

You need the SD card + License (which is the expensive bit) - and the licence needs to be activated by Audi.

You maybe wasting your money with a so called bargain of Ebay, more likely the card won't work, and you'll end up buying from the dealer for £495 + Audi setup costs. These cards are a one use item, and cannot be transfered from car to car.

Yes, the GPS hardware is already installed from factory. The key codes to activate it though are presently only available from an Audi dealership. This will cost in the region of £500 (cost if specced from new) however some dealerships will then add labour charges of anything up to a £100. If you can get it for £500 all in you had done alright.

Thanks for all the answers thought that might be the case. oh well looks like I'll stick with my portable TomTom.

I thought the same, and have used TomTom's for about 13 years. But the SD sat nav is a real gem, with no horrible Tomtom sat on your screen and wires trailing. Blends lovely with the MMI, it's one of those things, once you have it, you wouldn't be without it.

Just bite the bullit and do it!
Compared to other in car satnavs it's not so much of a rip off.

My only problem is it's a contract lease company car & it goes back in 3 years & £500 - £600 is a lot when I allready have a TomTom & Google maps on my phone.

You must have Navigation preparation (standard in some countries, included with ami in other countries) , the shark fin shaped antenna at the roof
is a good indicator that you meet the requirements.
Activation code must be purchased and activated online at audi premises.
the sd card containing the maps has some kind of drm protection , so copying a sd card for backup purposes is impossible.
Free updates for 3 years are provided in some countries through myaudi.com
