good...then it's not just me.....went for a spin over lunch....too small to notice...other than having the Audi engineer/designer sat in the car tapping the dash every time it shutsoff I can honestly say I cant tell the difference...and again tbh if I have to drive it in an abnormal fashion just to feel it then I'm never going to feel it...not that I'm suggesting anyone on here with COD is abnormal or driving abnormally!

The chap on the A1 review seems to be in and out of 2 and 4 pots all the time!

...still waiting for my free sat nav 'install'..tut..so much for" early this week"...another call to the dealer beckons.
 
ok.....my vehicle is going into Audi tomorrow for the free sat nav ...(should have been early this week....chased it and dealer said "sorry I forgot"!!!!)

So...I asked him the question over the DIS not displaying the cylinder shut off.....my contact is going to speak to one of their 'product champions' (what the?) who will have a definitive answer tomorrow.......I shall let you know the 'answer'
 
Good news for the sat nav getting done tomorrow. You be pacing the office waiting for its safe return. :) x
 
It's gone from being 'installed' Monday/Tuesday of this week with mine being collected and having a courtesy car to minimize any disruption to being Friday and I'm dropping mine off first thing in the morning!..I would have complained but tbh I didn't really want them driving mine anyway.....I BET I end up with an A1....bet I do
 
I'll have another toy to play with tomorrow..yip yip yipeeeeeeeeeee!
 
Just got an email from the dealer who talked with Audi Denmark, and they said that its not possible to view "2-Cylinder mode" in the display. Its simply an error in the instruction book.
 
interesting....strange why it's not possible?......still...it matters not I guess....I have witnessed the change several times...once I noticed it the first time I could get it to wod (wobble on demand)...felt like a slight drop in revs when I first noticed it

Mines at the dealers, for the sat nav,...as I type....loan car is an A6 s line...covered in tree sap..so much so I had to drive back to work with the windows down ...could see nothing through them...feels like a cruise liner

This is the pic of the DIS in the A1..clearly showing cylinder mode.

My dealer wasn't aware that it did not show on the A3..but pointed me to the manual....this I have already read and carried out.....it basically does not exist on the A3.......the dealer did say they would dig further (I at present am the only COD owner they know of!!!)

I will not be the only one that fires that question at them....in time...unless there is a fix for it...(not that it really concerns me)
 
I just got a A3 1.4 TFSI CoD and have run near 800 miles.
I needed to top up the oil at 700 miles and cannot get anywhere near the quoted MPG. I average 29MPG and I am on efficiency mode.

I am not sure what this is due to? Is the enging bedding in or my engine is just a big fault?!
 
Try it in a different mode - I've heard before (and in other cars) that efficiency mode can actually do the opposite, since you need to apply so much power to get anywhere it just ends up wasting the fuel rathr than saving it! In my last car I used eco mode in the snow only, it was useful for limiting the power to the wheels and preventing spinning on slippy surfaces.

My overall average is 44 mpg (manually calculated). Mileage is now 6700. Normally stay in AUTO mode but DYNAMIC now and again for additional grin factor ..
 
...they give you that tub of oil for a reason so that wouldn't worry too much about that (though I aint no expert)...

Mines still showing 37mpg and hasn't really changed since it's birth.....and I am permanently on Dynamic and will never ever ever ever evverrr be on anything different

The COD version in the A3 doesn't display when the cyls are on 2 or on 4, I already knew that from the road tests I'd read. What's the point anyway, why do you think you need to know this?

If I could just point out that the DIS debate was during June! - this was before COD hit the streets (A3) and we were all obsessed with the novelty of it all....obviously since then I (amongst many others) have been driving around in a COD and I now couldn't give a hoot if I'm in 2 or 4 (though I can feel it).......however having said that why shouldn't the DIS show it if it can be displayed in the A1?...and I suspect it may even allow for even more economic driving knowing for sure (some drivers haven't been able to detect the change) if its dropped 2 pots....I however drive mine like any other car...with a smile.
 
Perhaps Audi have had A1 owners constantly ringing to ask what this warning light was on their display, because it seems few read their manuals, thus decided to not have it enabled in the A3? I still can't see the point of it. Perhaps I can drive my cars differently but I drive my them by the sound and the feel of them and I still achieve better mpg than anyone else.

In fact, the 2-cylinder mode is shown very clearly on the MY2014 A3s, but the DIS has to be switched to instantaneous or average fuel consumption. On a manual, it is very easy to put the engine in 2-cylinder mode by a slight release of the pressure on the accelerator at 70 mph in 6th.

I achieve better mpg with auto over eco. Dynamic trades off a very small amount of mpg against auto. I keep the car in dynamic all the time for the firmer steering plus the power delivery makes the drive more fun. I am achieving 50 mpg in dynamic. Oh I run a 2TDI. Moonlight is the stat man on the COD seeing as he was one of the first to take delivery. He has probably racked up a number of miles and can give you insight as to what he was achieving in the first 1000 miles. What type of trips/journeys are you doing in the car? It is still early days for you. Have you checked your tyre pressure and ensured they are inflated to the correct psi?

I can't see anything on my DIS about cylinder shutdown in any of the pages (2014 MY COD sportback). What are you seeing on yours?

When the on-board computer is switched to instantaneous or average fuel consumption and the engine is running on two cylinders, my DIS shows "2-cylinder mode" just under the mpg display. The message disappears as soon as the engine switches to using all four cylinders.

Interesting - thank you. Strange though that mine doesn't do that... Mine is build week 26 and 2014MY, sportback Sport trim... I wonder why others have that and I don't. Does anyone have any more info or any ideas?

Great - thanks so much! I've been wanting that display since I got the car. Mine was set to "tbd" and is now "Display". Time to head to work and see if it's done anything!
 
Ok I set my mode to Auto and got 1 MPG more.... cough. How long does this engine take to bed in. Well annoying.
 
I don't think you can base mpg readings on the experience of a single day... if that...

Stat man ...wasn't that a hit back in the mid 90's?!...wellllll....I think my DIS must be stuck at 37mpg!...and just to re-affirm my standing here...I was the FIRST to take delivery of a COD SB....I am THE original.....(gulp this is where someone comes along to discredit me!..wouldn't be the first time!)

Hope the little one is enjoying the back seat SJ.
 
Early days using the C.O.D. But very impressed so far. Is very quick (by my standard of cars so far) and very quiet, I hope gets a bit noisier when you floor it but haven't done that yet.
MPG seams to vary a lot depending on journey, in stop start traffic can get down to 17 mpg And on open road up to 60 mpg so far when I picked up from show room did 35 miles and got 35 mpg, yesterday did about 30 miles in dynamic and got 45 mpg, today did 30 miles again in eco and got 42 mpg, so is a good start and shows drive select is not the answer to mpg, more to do with how you drive.
The only thing I noticed so far is because it is so quite, I was tending to push the accelerator I little harder than necessary, when just following in traffic, which lowers the mpg a lot without accelerating much faster. No point if you stuck in traffic, it makes about 10 mpg difference if you get it right, it is quite happy accelerating at lower rev's than you expect. That said when you do get a bit of open road, you don't have to floor it to get to 60+ really quickly.
the engine seams to be very sensitive / responsive which is good fun, but the mpg is going to vary far more than any of my previous cars depending on drive / driving style, massively enjoyable though, and the weight reduction over the 2.0 ltr. Diesel I test drove sharpens up steering and add an element for fun / sportiness to the handling and cornering as it seam to slightly improve the balance of the car.
but I think the diesel will delivery a far more consistent MPG as is less dependant to driving style and I liked the noise it makes.
 
My CoD now has 7k miles on the clock and I am finding that MPG is very consistent. For the past month, I am averaging just above 44 mpg (manually calculated - DIS tends to read around 46.5). Whereas in contrast, the mpg in my 1.6 TDI tend to fluctuate between 52 mpg to 57 mpg around this time of year.

I am very much liking mine, very refined and start stop works almost seamlessly compared to my 1.6 tdi.

thats good to know, another person confirming in long term C.O.D. Seams to average mid 40's,
i would be more than happy with that.
 
It would be helpful though if we knew what the kind of driving conditions were and how the car is being driven, what is the average mph and is the mpg readout being reset every tank fill. Otherwise the numbers are rather meaningless. I can get 70-80mpg out my car if I drive it at 30mph in 5th gear if the road is completely flat. Or 99.9mpg if I go downhill...
 
Our long term average is 40 MPG, mostly London driving with the odd long journey. Mostly keep it in efficiency mode, its great to have the power on tap but in London it means a jerky drive with all the start stop. Efficiency seems to make everything smoother (obviously dynamic is more fun!).

Long trips we average 48-52 MPG, it seems to be quite difficult to keep the foot off the throttle enough to deactivate the cylinders so mostly leave the cruise control on. I've found around 76-78 MPH to be most efficient - in that it seems to operate on two cylinders for longer on up hill gradients. I guess it must be a momentum thing but if set it to 70 MPH it seems to call for all four cylinders more often.

Where there are roadworks and the speed drops to 40-50 MPH then it looks like 60+ MPG is possible but that is hardly a practical motorway speed!

Hi, Kristian83. You seem to be one of the few who, like me, notice the 2- to 4- cylinder change. Have you also noticed vibrations in 2-cyl mode? I have just posted a thread on that.
