Foolish things your car has made you do?

Ok how about a little fun on a rainy day

Has anyone else found themselves doing silly little things because of their new A3's

I have finally stopped scrapping around the steering column looking for my keys when I park up lol (advanced key)
But driving one of the work vehicles the other day I walked up thinking "oh yeah I need to press the key fob, I don't want to look silly" but then I jumped in and instantly stalled it as I tried to drive away with the handbrake on Dohh! Lol

Just wondered if anyone else has had similar experiences since picking up their cars

The main one I get is when I visit my gliding club, we tend to drive around the field with no seatbelts (big open field, drive slowly anyway or the suspension would be knackered!), so the handbrake doesn't come off (or ON) automatically. I've once left the car without putting the handbrake on (luckily on a flat) and too many times tried to pull away without releasing it

I have Hold Assist on my 8V.

Got in a car with a normal lever handbrake. Released handbrake at start of journey but pulled up at lights expecting auto-hold. Minor panic as car rolled backwards. Luckily no-one behind me.

Separately: I normally drive S-Tronic in auto with manual flappy paddle over-ride (which reverts back to auto mode after ~10 seconds). Thought I'd try manual mode and after a few roundabouts I wondered why car was cruising, but at 4000rpm....

When I first drove the car with the slightest drizzle, I waited an age for the automatic wipers to leap into action......but they didn't!
Found out later the wiper stalk wasn't in the correct position for auto wipe.

When driving my wife's car, still forget to put the handbrake on when when stoping in traffic.

I don't think I've moved my wiper stalk up or down since I set to to auto on the day I got the car!

Same thing with the A4 I drove while mine was in the garage with regards to the hold assist

I see a real handbrake theme emerging here.

Perhaps that should be printed in the manual to remind people of the need to use it when driving other cars. The manual is not short of warnings and disclaimers anyway.....

Likewise I'd suggest another entry in the user manual reminding us that not all cars have ACC and that you might occasionally want to use the pedals.

Ha ha this is so true! I can see an opportunity for some good some tongue in cheek advertising from Audi here! Maybe also a free keyring for any other cars you may have reminding you to use the handbrake

Oh and I have once very foolishly after running a lot of errands walked up to my front door and turned the handle and thought "Eh? Oh yeah" then got my keys from my pocket! Lol

haha... I could see how that could happen.

When I firrst got remote locking on my previous car, I was laddened with shopping and tried to unlock the front door using the car keys! Duuhhhh!

I know what you mean about the key. You wouldn't have thought it would be such a big deal - and it doesn't seem like it on first glance (it's just pressing a button, right?), but it's amazing how much of a pain it seems to be on other cars now to have to actually get something out your pocket to use them, and remember to take it out the dashboard when you leave the car...

I guess this is a silly thing, (or maybe just a bit nerdy / OCD) - I'm just always admiring the car! - looking out of the window when at home peering at it on the drive and checking on it whenever I come / go.

Annoyingly, I have to commute by train so only get to drive it during the weekends! The 8V SB is a great looking car though. Def more estate-looking than a hatch (esp with the window behind the rear doors) but still very well proportioned and with good lines.

Lol I think we all do that, well I do anyway because I have to park it in the street I can't walk past it without checking the bumpers front and back etc for any parking damage.

When I drive the car with the air con on and the start/stop is on the threshold of kicking in, I come to a stop, engine still running and then switch the air con off. This tips the threshold of the start/ stop and the engine is switched off. Switch the air con on, and the engine switches off!

Extending that thought further:

When engine stops automatically at traffic lights or whatever, you could try pressing the stop/start button (to deactivate stop/start functionality) and engine would straight away. Push-button start for free (even if the button isn't silver).

All models with stop/start could have push-button start and are only prevented by Marketing to push the options list.
