I was only thinking 2 weeks ago how fabulous my 2002 gold A4 is.
The roof goes up and down like a dream! Now it,s a nightmare.
I had a problem a few years ago and having manually reset it It once again worked lovely.

I decided to try to re glue the rear window last week and on trying to re close the top it refused.
Reset it manually but no joy. Then took a look at connectors and had a general feel around for loose cables but nothing.
Finally bit the bullet and dropped it into AUDI. Initial cost £57.
Advice ..... Top lock mechanism requires physical checking £114 an hour ... and possible replacement at £800 !!! EIGHT HUNDRED POUNDS !!!!!

I will follow the advice from the thread but my problem is the front clamps are not releasing (top lock mechanism). With a little help ... sometimes the roof will go up ..... or down ...... but doesn't do the whole thing ...... frustrating.
I did notice over the last several months that the warning roof light was flashing too many times so suspect the boot cover is not fixing fully in the upward position.

Will attempt to follow the advice given and get back on my progress

I cant believe it.
Took out my tools outside to spend some time on working on the Audi. I wanted to check connectors on the top lock and the boot latch.
Decided to see if it would work!!! It did !!!
My brother in law, yesterday, took the switch (by the handbrake) out and disconnected it, sprayed some electrical cleaner into it.
Now it did not work yesterday but seemingly, now it has dried, the roof is working. One happy chappy! Just hope it is not a fluke.

SO THE BEST ADVICE BEFORE TAKING IT TO AUDI IS ----- TRY DISCONNECTING AND CLEANING THE SWITCH.

Hello Clive,

I'm my experience the top lock motors get seized up.. You can remove them and lubricate...
