Noob to the Audi Scene

Hi guys,

I've had my head burried in the site for the past few weeks (great site by the way, really informative and some amazing members rides), so thought it was time to stop and say Hi to you all.

I have always been into and owned Jap Performance cars previously, bar a breif stint with a Fabia Vrs and a Seat Ibiza Reference Sport.
However, my mechanic recently bought a mint 2002 S3. He let me take it for a spin and I've wanted an Audi ever since.

As much as I'd love to ge an s3, I do a lot of motorway miles, so I'm currently on the hunt for an 03/04 A3 TDI Sport, or hopefully an S line preferbly a DSG. So please feel free to point me in the right direction if anyone knows of a good example for sale.
I've been to check a few out so far, but they've all been dogs in all honesty. I'm back on the hunt this weekend though, so fingers crossed I'll find something.

Nowt wrong with the A3 Tdi's....Although the later engined diesels are much quieter and a bit more refined than than model before last. Had the pleasure driving quite a few hire car A3 diesels and enjoyed the experience a lot. Just a wee bit too small for me and my Squad! Have a look at the Honest John site....Lots of great, unbiased info on there. Audi A3 2012 - Car Review | Honest John The older models are at the bottom of the main Audi for reference.

Thanks again for the warm welcome guys. I ended up buying a really nice 05 A3 TDI S line at the weekend...Full Audi Service History etc.
All was going well until about an hour after I purchased the car and the engine warning light came on.
Although I didnt take out a warranty from the garage I bought i from, I was so annoyed I still took the car back.
The Salesman had their mechanic check it over, and he said that the fault codes found were for a glow plug (didnt tell me what cylinder it was on) and boost sensor. I couldnt help but feel he didnt want to really address the issues on the car i.e.
"The Glow plugs are'nt a major thing, and the car must have overboosted slightly as it had been sat on the forecort for some time. Its still driveable so don't worry about it"
Not really what I want to hear considering I have only owned the car for a past couple of days.
I'm just unsure where to go from here really, as the garage are only willing to rectify the faults on the car if I pay them £55 for their warranty, and I'm unsure as to what that will actually cover.
Failing that, my mechanic is going to do a diognistic check on it later today to confirm whether the above fault codes are correct.
My first venture into Audi ownership isnt looking good thus far:s Sorry for the rant guys

Screw that, if it happened an hour after buying, tell them to fix it or refund the car cost & go somewhere else, that's just pathetic service, really is.

My thoughts exactly mate. Thing is I really do love the car, as it was the best I could find out of the 8 I looked at. I'd happily keep it if they were willing to fix it. However, given their response so far, I think I may have to go down the consumer rights route before I get anywhere

What's the latest with this then mate? That really does sound like shocking stuff, the dealer I bought my 55plate 2.0 tdi from threw in 3 months warranty as standard. If the engine warning light comes on so soon after the purchase, it is without a doubt the dealers responsibility to fix at THEIR cost, with or without warranty!

http://www.oft.gov.uk/shared_oft/reports/676408/oft1241.pdf -page 13, point 4 addresses exactly what they're trying to make you do; purchase a warranty to undertake a repair they're contractually obliged towards anyway.

Hi guys,

Its been a while since I posted on here (stupidly busy with work)

Unfortunately I'm still having a bit of a nightmare with this. The dealer stopped answering my calls/messages to get the car fixed.
I since paid £35 to get a full diagnostics check done from a VAG specialist in Manchester, and they confirmed the 2 faults on the car 1) inlet mani flap failed 2) glow plugs failed.

After that I contacted Citizens advice, who advised me to send out a letter to the dealership outlining the faults with the car and their breach of the sale of goods act.
I didn't get a reply from the dealer, so sent another letter, and still no reply.....no surprise there.

I spoke to CA again this morning, and they said that unfortunately at this stage, I would have to pursue the matter with court action, as my local CA don't give civil advice.

They told me to check out moneyclaims.gov.uk and hmcourt-service.gov.uk

I was just wondering if anyone had been down this route before, and if it will be worthwhile?
I also had a look at the x50 form to get a rough idea on court fees etc, but didn't fully understand them.

Can anyone assist me with this?

Small claims court or fix the glowplugs/IMF if that's all that's wrong with it, I did the same thing for forum member recently.

i would, get the parts and get it sorted yourself mate then go to small claims court and get them to pay all your money back
