So - I've read all the great threads about fitting everything from Porsche brakes to S4 brakes to various slightly less exotic Audis.

But all I really want to do is improve on the braking performance of a standard 2.0 A4 Avant - FSI - B6. This is just an ordinary road car, nothing special, no significant mods. Standard wheels etc.

Discs are standard - and were replaced 2 years / 30,000 miles ago (before I bought it) with what I believe might be Genuine Audi, and it had new pads at the same time, although I've no idea what they are.

How could I improve on the not especially wonderful brakes? Better pads? Lines? Brake fluid? (No idea when that was last changed, but the car was exceptionally well maintained so if it was on the schedule, it was probably done).

Yes, it would be nice to put bigger discs on - but it's a balancing act between money and time and result.

Thoughts appreciated. Thanks, Mike

Get 312mm brakes from a v6 tdi or larger petrol engines...well worth the expense !

As Chris said above, 312mm would be a good upgrade.
If your budget allows maybe even try a set of B6 S4 brakes!

another vote for 312's, costs buttons to do, is a very easy swap and makes a noticeable real world difference

Mmmmmm - B6 S4 brakes - - - aye, and the bigger wheels to go with them - - nice thought tho!

312 - a little research finds refurbed calipers and carriers for £200 - then between £50 and £200 for discs - and £50 or so for decent pads.

Mike

312mm brakes. Paid £50 for a pair of used carriers off a 3.0 and £60 for new pagid discs and pads when there was an offer on.

Noticeable difference to the 288mm previous version

Seems I have to start searching for 312 carriers then!

Final question - is it worth the extra to go drilled and/or grooved discs? Remember, this is just an ordinary road car.

Thanks all - Mike

Might be more like 25 past, it's mental here as all the nephews and neices are having a sleep over ha! About to jump in shower now.

I have a set of 312mm brakes, carriers and good discs. Pads could do with replacin but i have these as well. £150 for the lot posted...Groved discs clean the glaze of the pads but make more dust, drilled offer improved cooling but they often crack ! Solid discs are fine for a daily driver...

Interesting - thanks - would you part with the carriers on their own? Calipers are fine and I'll go with new discs / pads for preference you see.

The pads/discs are worthless on their own mate, everybody knows that ! If you happy to pay 150 for the carriers then i am game !

ROFLMAO - You're a funny guy pal. I think you know the answer, but thanks anyway.

What the hell, how did I post that? That was a text I sent...that could have been a lot more embarrassing!!
