Droopy Gap

Hi all,

searched about couldn't find a solution. Door drop resulting in a gap at the top. Not sure if they are independently adjustable. Also, not sure what caused the wear on the pillar. Any help/ideas on fixing the drop?



(notice the wear above the door corner and the drop. It doesn't look too bad in the pic but is about 4mm)

it could be the hindge

look at the catch you will see just loosen the screws and adjust till you get it right

Just been outside, can't see any catch adjustment ... do you mean the metal loop bit on the pillar or the catch/lock bit in the door?

It's probably the door dropping on the hinge. It is quite common and there was a thread on it recently.

I would certainly say door dropping from the hinge aswell - it shouldn't go that low.

You've not by any chance had someone/something hanging off it while the door was open have you?!

Yeah I have this problem too on my passenger side - haven't had an opportunity though to investigate it but my guess it is at the hinge.

Na both doors are the same. Not got any worse since I bought it ... just trying to work out how to fix it lol

I've got the same problem, I'm gonna try jacking the door to pop it back, big brutal I know, but few of mk4 golf lads have done the same

Door drop is common, not a reason to suspect a bump. esp when the drop is the same on both sides.

Didn't mean to come across negative fella it's just that this is not uncommon with cut and shuts. Hinges can be adjusted by the way but best by removing the door first. Depending how much you need to move each one.

Its a common problem across the majority of modern vags - a good mate is a seat mechanic and they get them in quite often but they contract it out elsewhere.

Jacking it up won't help unless you loosen the door first, jack/lift it up then tighten again.

Just had a look at my Haynes manual - it says you can do limited adjustment on the top hinge.

My passenger door dropped to the extent that the bottom plastic lip chipped the paint of the car metal chassis.
