I've had a stage one done on my 170 by Rick @ Unicorn Developments!
Rick's a genuine nice guy and you can tell from the word go that he knows what he's doing. He'd managed to fit me in on a saturday which was nice of him, it did mean getting the car to his by 8am but I figured this was something that'd be worth getting done, even if it did require getting up at 6!
Left the car with him for half a day and what can I say, we went for a test drive in it and it was a completely different car, I can't believe how much difference it's made. It's as if my car has been hungover for it's entire life.
After I payed I decided to take a trip to Wales whilst taking the bala road (as it's a great driving route), the car had so much more power, especially in third and fourth - being able to really put your foot down coming out of corners and get pushed back in the seat, for me, was worth the £600. It really makes the car feel more like a petrol, just with **** loads of torque.
One problem though... On the way back from Wales, coming out of a junction, I lost all power, so I pulled over and let the car rest, then turned it back on, thinking that would fix it.. but nope, after having to limp it back home I spoke to Rick and it's a failed DMF, which we did speak about before he did the stage 1 (as my car was showing symptoms of a failing DMF) and I decided to go with it anyway as it seemed strong enough to last, at least for a month or two. But no, apparently not.
Got warrantydirect so hopefully they will pay out (although I only got the cover, 2 & 1/2 months ago so i'm still in the wear and tear exclusion, but a DMF failing isn't due to wear and tear is it?)
Rick said his engine was probably the strongest he'd tuned which was good to hear, he thinks I'm pushing about 215bhp!
Can't recommend him enough, especially for a remap - as all his maps are done on the job, none of this generic ****!
On a side note, I didn't realise how much black smoke it kicks out when you don't have the DPF, rick says he can tone it down but i'd lose power...so no thanks!
But thanks again Rick!
