Hi, i have searched the forum but with no success.

Is there a buying guide for the A3 8P anywhere (the 2.0 TFSI in particular , with optional extra's or faults to look out for or anything like that. There was quite a large guide in the 8L forums and wondered if theres the same for here.

Thanks,
JJ.

I will have a look but i only have like 4k lol, n looking for a quattro one for sure.

I bought a 2.0TFSI quattro about 6 months ago ... here's what I found out:

(a) 100% get the oil pickup pipe checked. They get blocked, and they are not always checked during services. If it gets blocked, it may kill your engine and the 2.0TFSI suffers with this. Mine was on a flatbed the day after buying it due to this.
(b) Has it had the rev D dump valve fitted? Mine didn't and it failed.
(c) Give it a good drive and check for diff whine. They do commonly make a reverse-like whine in 1st/2nd but it shouldn't be too loud. Did much research on this.
(d) Get an AA inspection, they check for crash damage/repairs, resprays etc which is useful. AA are crap for other stuff as I discovered, but the inspection was good.
(e) FSH doesn't mean it wasn't worked on by an idiot.

Does it come with a dump valve as standard? (dumpvalve is one that makes te psssst noise? and wastegate is a closed system one?)

What is a Diff whine?

Im not a mechanic in any sorts but im wanting to learn about servicing etc.

thanks, JJ

Yes it has a recirculating dump valve, and they revised it around 2006 I think to one that doesn't fail. Get your car checked out by a professional and u should be good.

Well it will deffintly be a pre 06 one, and a dumpvalve was going to be my first attempted task, so i will replace it when i buy i think to stay safe. you can point me to a decent dump valve? thanks.

right thanks, and also i will be going for a quattro one with haldex, i understand this is important for it to be serviced. will there be a separate document for te haldex servicing?
