Hi all . . I hope i'm in the right place...

Just bought an A4 Estate, 1.8T 190 S line Avant..... Its 2004 plate, obviously made just before the facelift.

Can i have xenon bulbs? The headlights have that 'xenon' look, small circle of light etc. Currently has normal bulbs in, and the visibility is pretty rubbish. My previous car had xenon headlights, fancy auto adjusting etc etc etc.

Any help appreciated,

Thanks!
Phil

Cool thanks, I guess its a 'look' thing too. Yellow bulbs just dont do it! lol

Definiitly try better bulbs first, it was the first thing I did to my cab. I upped some pictures on here showing the difference before and after.

May seem like a silly question, but how do you know if you have xenons headlights? These look like them... but.... normal bulbs in etc

Two ways, factory xenons will have headlamp wash as it's the law, and when you turn them on they flicker slightly as they ignite and then grow bright, factory xenons also self check the auto dipping by pointing down when you turn them on and then raise up.

I'd just like to try and clarify this a bit better, sorry guys.

You can have headlight washer jets without xenon, but you cannot have xenon without washer.

So, if you have headlight washers in your bumper is not a 100% guarantee you have xenon's, although, if you have xenon's then from 2004 onwards EU legislation stated the manufacturers must fit washers with xenon lamps.

I may have made that more confusing but hopefully you guys will understand.

Also, there ere two types of xenon's, standard (low beam only) and twin (both low and high beam).

Cheers

In a B6 you can only get normal xenons, ie dipped beam only. B7's have bi-xenons, ie one bulb and a flap to adjust between dip/main. B6's with xenons have a halogen main beam bulb.

Factory fit xenons WILL have headlamp washers.

I'm not sure on whether you could spec headlamp washers on their own, hopefully someone else can advise on that.

Bi-xenon's where an optional extra on the B6 S4, its clearly stated in the glossy sales brochure, i don't have it on mine but my neighbour 2 doors down has a 2004 S4 with Bi-xenons (both high and low beam are xenon, no halogen)

Fair one, I was referring to A4's but I should have been more specific.

sorry buddy, wasn't meaning to sound offensive or a know it all.

Its funny, i always think of S4's as A4's, i presume fundimentally they are the same vehicle unless you know otherwise? are the actually chassis's the same? I know Audi send chassis's out to another site all be it within the Audi organisation with which they build the RS cars.

No offence taken ;)

I had always been led to believe that in the B6 (even S4) range that bi-xenons were only available in the US market, but if your neighbour has them then that's obviously wrong. S4's are just A4's with performance additions, the basic chassis etc is the same. The company you refer to Quattro GmbH who manufactured several of the RS models, RS2, RS6, R8 etc, plus a few other random models such as the B7 DTM special edition. As far as I'm aware the S4 isn't one of them. The S-Line style trim was I believe designed and made at Quattro GmbH (hence the GmbH moniker) but the cars themselves were made at Audi's traditional base.

yeah loving the new motor - until today after 5 days of owning, the emmisions warning system light (enigine management?) light came on... AAAGGGHHHH

I had a Leon Cupra, same age, same engine. Same problem..... Running rich or lean or something. The A4 feels smooth, so will plug it in tommorow. Quite annoyed!!
