Hi guys.....

Been a regualar on other car forums over the years as i have had a few different cars from RS Cosworths to M3's to my last car which was a BMW E60 530d M-Sport.....

So thought i would try an Audi as ive never had one......so picked this up last week..........Lovely car.
Booked in tomorrow for the tints to be done on the windows, then maybe a slight drop......

Is there anything i need to do/know about these A4's????

Only about the oil pump failures. Apart from that, they're pretty good cars!

HAhhaa..... What's all this then??... Enlighten me before I sell it and buy another BMW, lol

Being a 57 plate..2007.... Has this issue been sorted as I see its mainly the early 2005 models???

Thats the belt driven pump. The later gear driven pump has an issue with rounding off the hex drive key. Even with this in mind, i still bought mine :D

Sorry, but is there such a model variant as "black edition"??

Or is it the same as i have, Special Edition, fitted with the black optic pack, RS4 alloys and pedals, etc.

Hello Tiffy and welcome to the forum.
I would suggest you read the following article https://dl.dropbox.com/u/63614250/2.0 TDI oil pumps.pdf
Now thats said I think your car looks great, very smart indeed from here.

........................and yes it is mainly the BLB coded (chain driven balance shafted engines ) that have the major problems.
The other coded engines have a gear driven balance shaft and the failures on these are limited to the oil pump drive (hex shaft) going round and hence not driving the pump.I think you should be aware of the problem but don't get paranoid about it , enjoy the car.

Am I right in thinking its mainly on the 140's???

Thanks for the nice comments on the car...... The "Black edition" has the black grill, window strips, roof rails, rs4 style wheels ect.

Hmm, Special Edition methinks, as far as i'm aware no such variant in this model range as Black Edition.

Its MAINLY the 140 BLB engines from 2005 but there are instances of the hex shaft rounding off on the 170 units all the way up to as recent as the last of the 2008 B7 models.
From what I have read it would appear Audi have sorted the issue in the B8 A4's and the engines in the A5 seem to be OK.

That's a handy picture to keep for the car aswell though, Thankyou.....

Like I've said, yes it is the Special Edition...... But also known as The Black Edition by some. Look on the Autotrader/ e-bay / Piston heads and you will see them advertised as this, but also just Special Editions.... Each to there own.

Welcome to the forum tiffy.. car looks lovely mate (whatever its technical name is!)

Good luck with the upcoming mods..

Cheers Chad.... Its in as we speak having the windows done

Never mind what version type it is :blahblah1:

Its a nice avant enjoy

How picky can someone get, arguing over the name of the car. For the record I own an S-Line Black Edition as well.

Not being picky or arguing about it pal, just pointing out the correct name - not the 'name' known by some.
