180k mils on a 2009?

I would want that with 12 Months Mot, and an extended warranty! new Dmf ,Clutch and suspension.

I wouldn't bother mate. If it was from an Audi dealer then yes but they wouldn't touch it either most probably.

The mileage is reflected in the price though. Have a look and check the service book and see what's been done. If you know anyone that knows about clutches and the such like, take them with you and have a test drive. Even if you spend a bit after that your getting a good car. Let us know what you do please.

only averaged 45k per year! But it must have been on the motorway ALOT.

I'd check wheel bearings, that's going to be the most worn I'd think.

But obviously listen for strange noises like DMF etc.

Otherwise I'm sure it's a solid car tbf.

Someone's *** is going to be moulded into the seat aswell! I've done about 24k last year, felt like alot of driving, but 45k eeek.

Worth a punt as long as some assurance that everything is 'A-OK'.
 
I go past FLC every day, does have a nice set up there unlike some cowboys I see. I could always stop and have a look if needed.

I reckon the motor will be better than granny's 5000 miler which never gets hot! :icon_thumright:

If you can get a look at the logsheet, note the previous owner's address and give them a bell. I've never bought a car without perusing the log book first.

try to knock £700 off that price or a bit more for that starship milage.
if it has been well looked after then it should be ok.
i saw an octavia with 360k miles theother day.

Having just bought mine from an Audi dealer (only 41k on the clock) they had a few models in that had 60k+, not just the one dealer either, various official Audi dealers.

It's guaranteed to be motorway miles so probably quite solid, although I personally wouldn't buy a car with that amount on it
 
That kind if mileage is easy done. I used to travel to Aberdeen every week for a few years and did a thousand miles a week.

I did this in a brand new X reg 2.0 golf GTI. Got rid if it after 3 years with 135k on it and it looked brand new apart from a few stone chips. Original everything, did not even need a set of brake pads. Looks like whoever owned it did the same but for 4 years instead of 3.

A mate of mine bought my old golf as he new the full history of it via me and for me that's the key to this car. Worth a punt but you need to speak to who had it and how the miles were crunched. I wouldn't pay a penny over 5 k though. Be cheeky and make them an offer, they may take it as those miles will make it harder to shift.
 
Worth doing a scan with VCDS to see the ash content if if it has a DPF.
 
I've done 33k so far in the last year in my 1.9 TDIe and its been faultless .. Well apart from the DPF pressure sensor covered under warranty and the little upset I had with Audi at the start.

Hoping at least 250k out of it as its 100% motorway journeys its doing or am I being ambitious lol

I wouldn't mind buying a high miler as long as it had a full audi history.
 
I wouldnt buy it doesnt matter what service it had if you come to see It on again

Whats going to be easier 100k+

Mileage is no barrier for any car. It just has to be looked after.
A high mileage engine that has had many component changes is better than a 50k without any.

183,000 miles however is a whopper. Motorway miles - or more precisely, European miles is the only possible explanation, which is a good thing.
 
I used to have a mark 4 golf gti when I was younger and I treated it like ****, missed loads of service intervals, didn't look after it at all, it made it to 195,000 before the bottom end went due to oil block and starvation. If I had looked after it it would have run foforever nowadays I look after mt cars lol
 
i sold my passat last year that i had had fron new with 186k on 11 years old, it had needed diff bearings and turbo, high miles is nothing to be scared of, the younger the car the better
 
I agree with some of the above, in that high mileage per se isn't necessarily a problem, especially if it's on a relatively young car in good condition with a full history. For me, it's all on the history - and I love seeing receipts as well as stamps (if they've kept them) so that I can see what's been done. At least two belt changes - maybe three? - should have been done.

High mileage puts people off, making it harder to sell. This might make it easier to negotiate a better price. If it looks as good in the flesh as it does in the pics, it may be worth a haggle. Then again, even if you shave them down to £6k or just under, that's still a good chunk of cash which could be put towards something else.
 
i wouldn't care if it had missed most of the belt changes.... as long as it has had one reciently
 
I'd imagine its true if its been kept in an air conditioned garage and never seen wet, no wonder he hasn't enjoyed it
 
Well. We intend to keep our A3 until it goes to the scrap yard. It is only 4 years old and we are hoping it hits well over 200k serviced and maintained properly. Like the others have said... providing its been servicex correctly and had a recent belt change i wouldnt worry too much. Just work on the price using mileage as a tool to do so. :)
 
Eventually ruled out even looking at the car, spoke to a few mechanics and they all said avoid this kind of mileage like the plague.

Going to be looking for 2006-2007ish a3's instead :)

My Audi A4 1.9tdi as 317,000 miles on it, as full service history, doesnt have any interior wear due to lady rep that as been doing 33k a year on the motorway, it doesnt smoke, doesnt rattle and doesnt have the clutch whine and it still starts first time and pulls strong, i bought it with high milage for half the price of the same car with low miles and is now my pet project to get it to 500,000 miles yep HALF a MILLION
 
forgot to mention something.
if anything happens to the car in the event that it has to be written off, your insurance comany will value it significantly less to say £3-4k.
 
Don't know about A3 high milers per se, but most of the taxis around us are 2l Tdi Skodas and some have 300k-plus on them, not to mention hours of ticking over to keep the driver warm in the winter!

The owners reckon they are pretty much trouble-free!

Wow!! That is even more reassuring for us keeping our A3 until it goes to the scrap yard.
Just shows that if they are looked after properly they will keep on going. :)
