losing mpg??

Hi all. I have an a4 1.9 tdi 130. I am now approaching 100k miles, and have noticed my mpg isn't what it used to be. Was normally averaging about 53-56mpg....but am now only acheiving 46mpg.
is there any maintenance or servicing I can do that may help bring those figures back? Also due to it approaching the 100k mile mark, would it be worth considering giving a major service, cambelt change, plus anything else to prolong the life of the car, thus have many more years trouble free motoring?
any advice be much appreciated

53-56mpg?? That's good!! Even 46 would be good for me right now.
I'm currently in the process of trying to sort my mpg issues also. I'm only getting 39-42mpg (130 tdi avant).
I think my 18" reps are killing my mpg mind.

You could strip the egr and manifold out to give a good clean if never been done.

I used to also get 50 mpg and dis used to show 60mpg at times and now dis has been reporting 30mpg with 25mpg in the morning. £30 diesel has only given me 145 miles only.

Im thinking my car has some sort of fuel leak

Mine had a slight leak at the back of the engine bay just under centre of windscreen. Easy to access and replaced clip with jubilee clip.
Don't know if it's helped with mpg yet, haven't used the last fill up yet.

Is the pipe on the pump behind the.engine under the boost pipe?

You get less mpg in winter you know! I average 42 in winter and 48 in summer

Yes, checked every where else. Pump also looks fine and dry.

Diesels are worse mpg in the cold petrols seem to improve slightly

I have a 3.0 TDI and have noticed a drop in feul economy.

The cold weather has a lot to do with a drop in feul consumption. I was told that the diesel takes longer to warm up and work efficiently.

I've noticed I'm getting less economy for my money.

with regards to the egr, will an egr blank improve things slightly? I was going to do this and clean intake manifold.
What about things like coolant temp sensor/thermostat problems? I've seen a few posts about this but not sure how this would affect mpg??

EGR blank may improve slighly maybe 1-2 MPG if your lucky

are you having problems with with your temp sensor or stat? if its reaching temperature then all is well and you dont need to change them

a diesel takes a lot longer to warm up then a petrol especially in winter

if you want to try and improve MPG then keep the heater on low around 20 - 22°c and the fan speed low this will help the engine warm up faster rather then sapping all the heat for the cabin

oh and these engines like to be revved too I drive mine like I stole it and get better MPG then the missus who drives like a granny!

EGR Blank in winter may worsen mpg, as it'll take longer to warm up.

as above clean egr
maybe replace CTS doesnt always show up on a scan
and the cold can knock quite a few MPG off

Check you don't have a dragging brake or two.

Both my B5s have had this, and the first symptom I noticed was the MPG dropped by a couple of points.

Don't just feel the wheels after a run as I found they were not always hot - jack each wheel and spin it by hand. Any drag on a wheel will indicate dragging brakes.

Buy some blanking plates or make your own

Remove egr pipe fit plates job done

It's only 4 bolts
