Porsche 312mm brake set up

*edit* Weird, I just quoted totally the wrong thing.

What discs and pads are you running Paul?

the LCR calipers are monoblock so they are lighter and stiffer.

the LCR calipers come in 2 halves

See my edit, I was miles off and still thought we were comparing the LCR's to the Porsche ones. **** knows how I managed that, playing Forza and typing with half an eye and one hand haha.

Pretty certain there is a difference between the GT Junior kit and the LCR ones though, in that the LCR ones have an external balance pipe as apposed to internal?

Has Paul got the GT or the GT Junior kit, because the two are quite different.

Im using CRN grooved discs and ( wait for it... ) EBC yellow stuff pads,
Ive tried DS2500 pads and never felt much diffrent, So before this is slated as the weak link... it must be somethingelse , The fluid has been changed twice and its always been ATE super racing Blue fluid.
To be honest when i fitted mintex standard pads they worked/ felt as good as any of the others.
Since i uprated the rear set up the car pulls up alot quicker but i want to sort the fronts properly next.

Most if not all th 8L A3/S3's in here arent worth the price of the replacement discs and pads for those.

GT/Jnr GT, we're all talking about the 2 piece calipers with 323mm discs. I don't know what you're thinking the GT kit is, but the ones that are the same essentially as the LCR's are the jnr GT's.

Paul: your GT kit is the same as the LCR brakes to all intents and purposes, marginally different caliper, but same pistons, pads, and discs.

Your problem is pads, and cooling I suspect.

Forum's always seem to rate Ds2500's, and I'm sure for most people they are ok.

Not for me though, they're just not good enough. they overheat too easily, and don't stop the car well enough every single time.

If you're pretty hard on your brakes, which it sounds like you are, then ds2500's won't be for you.

I've said this many times before, but you really need to try some more extreme pads Paul, like Ds3000's, or carbotech XP8's.

I currently run mintex 1177's, and they really do pull your face off, much like DS3000's.

check out this graph of coefficient of friction vs temperature for a range of ferrodo pads:

Above ~260 degrees ds25000's just fall off a cliff, where ds3000's just keep on getting better and better!

EBC's are your problem I think then Paul; they are actually unsafe. I will never use an EBC product again after some of the things I have seen.

Just give it a go, I know it's expensive but Prawns brakes physically hurt my face. I know it's a commonly used expression but honestly they make my eyes hurt when he puts the land anchors on.

I'm currently weighing up my options for the early part of next year, I need discs and pads and think I am just going to jump up to the Brembo's. No point sticking with 312's when I need to spend £200 on discs and pads anyway.

Also with regards to fitment LCR calipers are 5.5mm different offset to GT Junior calipers.

what are DSUNO's, and where can we buy them?
more consistent than any other according to that. initial bite must be insane

look pretty epic don't they? I have no idea what they are though! that graph illustrates exactly why the 3000's perform better than 2500's though, the 2500's get better as they start to warm up, then quickly fade. 3000's take MUCH more abuse, and I think it's heat related fade that's pauls problem.

I know Bill runs ds3000's on his 600bhp race car, so they can't be that bad!

Paul, I'd also look into brake cooling if I were you, my inner pads run FAR hotter than my outer pads, and this can be seen in disc wear, pad wear, and the colour of the components when they come off.

How "bad" are these better pads from cold? remember mine is a daily too.
DOes it take much to get them to a working temp?

Paul you need some 2 piece loving in yor life off bill haha, thats what im getting, im goig to be using the lcr brembos with billes 330mm 2 piece disks.

not bad at all, in any way what so ever infact.

You read so many things about how people shouldn't use track pads on the road because they lack initial bite, but of all the different track pads I've tried on the road, I've not found any of them lacking in cold bite at all.

My ds3000's had far more instant cold bite than my standard brembo pads do, even after 30 minutes cruising along a soaking wet motorway in a downpour, they're still razor sharp from the first press of the pedal

The pedal stays quite hard. Just the car doesnt shed speed very well after the first BIG stop.
The front discs can take another set of pads im sure of it. So as they arent warped i plan to keep the discs.
Is Bill the best place to source these Ds3000 pads?
Do they muller the discs?

Just to update this thread. Have fitted the LCR's now, the porsche alloys are a tight fit but need some spacers to clear the spokes as was advised earlier. Wanting them refurbed for winter so have taken them off in favour of a set of TT's that I forgot I had in storage, got a few mm of tread left on the TT's so will be buying some new tyres in a couple of weeks
